Id be cool with a slightly lighter, upgraded b58 or s58 car. Leaning towards b58 since it sounds closer to my n55. Probably do manual this time around since it would most likely not have a DCT.

Could you imagine a Ferrari or a McLaren made in Mexico? Nope, and for good reason. Because Mexico makes a lot of low quality junk for bargain basement wages. You get what you pay for.

Pretty embarrassing that BMW might make an M car there, simply for the sake of higher profit margins.

You know it's true.

Regardless of where it's built I hope it retains its character. BMW couldn't possibly bloat the M2 right?

I personally feel it being assembled in Mexico takes away from the allure or mystique of the M brand.

I'm not loving it....plus, who the hell would want to do a Mexico Delivery? 🤣 Just don't love the idea!

BMW needs to better balance the bottom line with there identity!

I'm still wondering - as the owner of a M2 LCI - why I would care what it looks like or whether it's based on a Mini. It's over 2 years away...

Obvs, if you owned a '69 fastback Mustang, the Pinto based model was not your thing. But did it actually effect how much you enjoyed your car at the time?

Cross-reference: evidence of future production G42 (next gen 2er coupe) & G87 (next gen M2) in Mexico: see the dedicated thread here.

Now if the plant is already there, that alone could be the reason they get built there rather than re-tooling one of the US plants.

One plus to this is that those that custom order their cars may receive them more quickly than when they were made in Germany. But personally, for me, I'd rather wait and get a German built BMW. I enjoy my German food made in Germany, my Italian food made in Italy, etc. Unfortunately we won't be given that choice.

PS - drop the "Trump" stuff. It's a car forum. Keep your politics for the off-topic sections. No one cares about your hate of the President.
90 % or your food passes trough a mexican!
Either they plant it, pick it , cook it or serve it! Be gracious !
Nothing I said could be construed as lacking graciousness. The USMC agreement is good for Mexico (and the US). Be gracious.

Therefore, very likely, the G87 M2 will get a beefed up B58 (B58B30TO) 410ps rated from factory, as the legitimate F87 M2 OG successor. Let's welcome.
Thought about it and disagree. BMW will make this model right. They'll source it from South Carolina most likely.

Next model M2 info?

I'm loving my 2017 M2, but It. Also wondering when info might start coming out about the successor to the F87.

I'd imagine the vehicle will be released in 2021 (5 years after the original M2), so would hope that Specs / sightings might start appearing in the next few months - or will the M2C with the higher rated engine act in place of the new model?

The last year of production for the M2C is 2021. A new 2 series will be introduced in 2022. The M cars in a series usually come out one year later. So no M2s in 2022 with the next generation M2 in either 2023 or 2024.

AlpsRider is right 100%. Next-generation M2 is coming out in 2023 and will be bigger, more weight, no DCT, not made in the home country, and will have that questionable grille.

Plus when the G87 arrives the newness of the M2 will be gone. I think the F87 M2 will be better.

Plus the new one might come with a b58 with less power then the current m2 and heavier!

Did you see the grille on the next M3/M4? Crazy. Hope the next M2 doesn't look like that.

Here's to hoping that the next gen M2 is offered with a s58 but I just know if it does, we're going to have pay up dearly, for the privilege.. Get ready for a 65k base M2, no sunroof..

I feel like modern automobiles have plateaued in power and handling, I wonder what's the main appeal the future BMW M cars, for for price of admission; It will be interesting to see how it plays out..
