2NH brake pads rust

I am planning on going for a track day using the OEM pads, but I noticed the front right brake pad is rusted.

I used to run Ferodo DS 1.11 for over a year and now I returned to the OEM pads (they where left outside unused for a year)

I went to my BMW dealership and they said it’s fine

Do you guys recommend I replace them or they will be okay for one track day?

But isn't this considered brake pads corrosion, I heard that its really dangerous to drive with rusted/corrosion in brake pads.

Keep in mind I have driven around 25K in these OEM pads + 2 track days, then I switched to the ferodo brake pads and left the OEM pads outside (rain, sunlight, heat, dust, basically not stored correctly).

I am just afraid it will cause a serious brake issue when im on the track ( Yas marina circuit, lots of high speed braking sections)

I would not be worried. Rust takes a long time to actually compromise steel. That is basically surface rust what you have there. Just hit with some sanding paper and I bet most of that rust is gone since its just on the surface.

It's unlikely that the rust penetrated the pad, so you're really just talking about surface rust, which will be swept away quite easily.

I wouldn't have suggested that they would be ok if I thought they would cause you harm.

I'll also say that I have a nearly new set of OE pads for sale for cheap if you're interested in putting your mind at ease. They have 4,000 street miles on them and I don't need them.

I thought about offering him my old OE pads also but I'm not sure shipping to Oman would be worth it lol.

I didn't notice the location. Yeah, I was going to give him a great deal, I won't ever use them.

I'd be more worried about using stock pads at the track.

I'd like to know how they hold up.

They aren't made for real tracking at all, light HPDE only. They're really a terrible pad TBH, not really at home on the street or the track, and being non-linear just makes the whole thing worse.

I firmly believe they were made to eat rotors to line BMW's pockets and not any sort of street or track performance.

100%

I'm strictly a street driver at this point in my life and these pads are AWFUL as a street pad. If you aren't driving aggressively enough often enough to be jumping on them regularly, they leave deposits on the rotors and they you get a nasty shimmy through the brake pedal. Replaced mine with Carbotech 1521's, 1000% improvement, and MUCH cleaner too.

I now have probably 10 track days, the first 3 or 4 track days I did were on stock pads and they were fine. They did their job under a novice driver at that specific track (lime rock park is not super hard on the brakes, I can see that a more technical track they might show their flaws sooner).

But yeah they are fine for light HPDE as it was mentioned but as you progress they start showing their flaws and when you move on to a proper track pad (I moved to a ferrodo 1.11) you immediately notice what you were missing, specially as the session progresses, the race pad basically never changes for the whole 20 minutes, very consistant.

However I don't hate the OEM pads as most do, they did their job and they are still around for if I ever want to return car to stock and sell. Car has 33k on OG rotors which are now due to be replaced, last 8k miles are on track pads which definitely sped up the wear and that is not that bad with 10 track days.

I would not buy OEM replacements though, better pads out there for same price.

I have these for everyday and very impressed.
Low dust, great stopping. Fast canyon driving with little to no fade. Just a very good pad.
