Horrible news! No M2 for Military Sales
I woke up to an email from my dealer with the most disappointing news I've received in a long time.
"Just received the worst possible news yesterday evening from BMW. The M2 Coupe will not be offered through the Military Sales Program!!!!" This is so disappointing. I was looking forward to spending my last two years in Europe attacking the Alps passes with an M2. The Military Sales program is such a great opportunity for us serving overseas to own and drive a BMW on the greatest roads in the world. Although I have been fortunate to have many great drives in my 135 the M2 was my last realistic chance to buy an M car and enjoy it the way I'd like. The timing was wrong to get the 1M and now it looks like I have no chance of getting an M2. For BMW because I know you read the boards...Please reconsider opening up some M2 allocations for Military Sales. The program has given so many of us over here a great opportunity. Without the program, many of the epic journeys posted on this site would not have been possible. Open up the opportunity for some loyal customers to get into an M car.

Ohhh BMW, how could you do this to us
Please reconsider this! M Sales through the program have always been so good, so why take away the one car that people have been waiting so long for? Where there's a will, there's a way! |

1M deja vu...
As Dr. Kay Segler(photo) said way back when(1M SOP)... "No limited, but hard to get"!! Deja vu all over again! For the 1M there was only six units sold/delivered in Germany - from what I understand. I know of one at the Welt - bc I saw it with my own eyes! That too was supposedly not allowed either for Military Car Sales(MCS). I heard from a good friend that the M2 sales for BMW AG internal sales will also be limited. Now I heard back today that those "limited internal" sales sold out in just 2 minutes! Deja vu! Maybe SCOTT26 can shed some light on this "policy". Dackel

Yes internal sales are now all accounted for with some of the high profile orders expected to be personal just as before.
I will not be joining them this time as much as I would like to but I have just bought a MINI Cooper D Clubman which joins our M5, i3, GT and Citroen Cactus (replacing an old Ford Escort Kombi).

Well I get it if SCOTT26 doesn't know although I was hoping for some insight into why Military Sales was left out. Rumor is that diplomatic sales managed to get allocations so why not the Military? I could probrably even understand having some limited allocations but none at all? Dackelone brings up a good point and this does sound like a bit of Deja Vu.
After talking to many of my friends who tried to get one it seems BMW (or perhaps more accurate Military Sales) SNAFU'd the allocations for the 1M. After being told numerous times there would be no 1M allocations many folks I know gave up or settled for a 135...only to find out later some were available but their dealer was left out of the loop. In many ways this would feel even worse if this happens again with the M2. I trust my dealer is working hard to find a way and make sure he has the right info but he is only as good as the info thats given to him.

Havent been too fond of thr military sales as of late. Long story short. Bei g deployed so often i wasnt able to finalize my m3 order. I kept trying to contact superior msp about my 3k deposit. Never heard back. Finally called bmwna and spoke to the military rep. She said...we do t do business with them any more so its not our problem. Soooo f bmwna. A life long customer and they could care less. Luckily my local dealer laurel bmw in westmont il heard of my issue. A d believe it or not they are tsking care of me on their end. So bmwna does t care but laurel knew to keep a life long customer because i was never going to get another one acter being screwed out of 3k

The program does seem to have been struggling with change lately. Here in Spangdahlem the MSP office is now integrated into the local dealership which should have some additional benefits to the customer. Unfortunately the late deliveries of the M3/M4 and now no allocations of M2s makes you wonder if BMW still cares for its military customers. I know it is more complicated than that but it still makes you wonder.

I cannot comment on the specialty services offered to the American market, the M4 GTS is probably also affected as these are not standard models.
What about the i8?

Scott, I understand your point. But do you really think the M2 is on the same level of "special" or "non standard" as the GTS and i8? All the other M models are available, so why not the M2? Is the M2 going to be that limited?

Specially for a guy that constantly has "insight" on things BMW maybe he could have recommended maybe to talk to someone in another BMW office..... But a simple "I honestly don't know" would have been fine.

I wouldn't be surprised someone or some people high up in the BMW headquarters aren't happy with the NATO geo-political situation that has developed. It could be described as to why tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of undocumented bi-lingual refugees have entered through EU borders.
I mean military guys are just like any other guys doing their jobs. I guess BMW doesn't want money? |

I think that this is yet another indicator. It's apparent to me that M2 will be produced in small batches on the line. As opposed to conventional wisdom which is that the bmw AG will produce as many as are needed. I'm sure that what they're going to do is simply produce small batches at different times during the year for different markets. We have already seen in the BMW production about the m2 indicated that they had to widen the line to even produce this car so it's very possible but they're only going to make modifications line for production at different times during the year |
