GTS hood recommendations?
I've been wanting one of these hoods for quite a while, and I think now is the time, but there is so much confusion surrounding them, and I wondered if anyone could clear some of that up.
The Suvneer aluminum hood is the one I was always looking at, and figured the Aeroluxe was just a rebranded version, but now I'm not so sure. https://www.suvneermotorsports.com/s...aluminum-hood/ https://www.aeroluxeautoboutique.com...minum-gts-hood Price is about the same, as is the 3 regulars on eBay (Spec-M, JPM, and AutoRacing). And typing F87 GTS hood into AliExpress gets you the phone book... https://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-gts-hood-m2.html Are there still just a few suppliers of these hoods and the rest are rebrands? Any recommendations? Aluminum aftermarket or carbon aftermarket? And for the record, I did look at the OEM CS hood, but at $6200 all in I'm decidedly OUT. TIA. PFA. IND - hood/screen/struts = $6490 getbmwparts - hood/screen/struts = $4402.30 So the same exact hood is $2088 less. I will say that the shipping from IND is $3-400 less, so being kind they are still $1688 too high. I like IND, but their prices are out of this world, and with something like a hood you can't even use their painting service (which is exceptional) because you really need to have it matched by a shop. |

But a.) it's carbon, and b.) I'm sure they won't ship to the states, and if they do it'd be cost prohibitive. I'm mostly interested in aluminum hoods. |

Definitely go with the aluminum over the aftermarket carbon bonnets. The weight difference is not drastic but the great thing with aluminum is it's easier to work with in terms of getting the fit perfect or fixing the imperfections on it prior to paint.
However a big downside to that is, ie. if you do not close the bonnet properly or constantly slam it without the correct items in place (spring latches & struts) it can warp and bend, carbon won't have this issue as it'll crack instead of deforming.

I do plan to get the CS struts as well, to allow me to drop the hood as I do now instead of pushing on it. |

This allows you to drop the bonnet as you would with the OEM one, the bonnet struts make lifting and pushing down the bonnet easy but this makes it close 10x easier, mine was missing this and I was wondering why it still felt like I was closing the bonnet too hard, with the new springs it's back to OEM spec. Attached is pictures, silver = original / black = cs

For outstanding quality go for Alpha-N (~3.000€)! Don´t take the crap from china. Mine is pure at the moment, so you can see details. Next weekend it will go to a near paint shop for HHS outside.

Having had hoods shipped previously, my concern is less about manufacturing QC and instead damage in transit.
So, I’m hoping to score one second hand that’s geographically convenient, as my ptsd won’t allow me to order new. |

Advantage of a carbon fiber hood is it doesn't flex like an aluminum hood does especially at speed 💨
That said I'd probably would go for the aluminum hood regardless especially for the price

Price to weight ratio heavily favors aluminum for sure. Also need to factor in the cost of shipping and getting the hood painted (and ppf'd if that's your thing). These costs all add up quite quickly.

Bought it used (never installed) from a forum member here since I was able to pick it up locally (rented a uhaul - fun fact, I learned after the fact that the hood will fit in a prius).
Otherwise, I believe you can get it from suvneer for $850-$900 nowadays. Or ebay for $800-850. |

They're $900 + shipping now. I've heard that there are more than 2 copies out there that apparently don't have the same quality as the original Suvneer hood, but some of the eBay ones are in fact the Suvneer hood for less, I just don't know which ones. https://www.suvneermotorsports.com/s...aluminum-hood/ |
