M2 Comp with the BBK stones catching between the wheel and caliper
M2 Comp with the BBK stones catching between the wheel and caliper there is so little room ?
This has happened to my M2C 2000 miles and BMW are not interested after all it was only a 60k car I have owned BMW’s for the last 30 years and this might be my last it’s a design fault if you ask me but BMW said it’s not a manufacturing default so that’s it. They were more interested in if I bought the car new from a dealer why should this matter It’s a BMW with Transferable warranty I purchased the car with 1,000 miles and 1 month old but this should not matter But this is what they wanted to know before they said no This will be my last BMW. How conmen is this ? I know it is a problem on the M4 GTS and bmw are replacing them under warranty |

I think this is just bad luck no? Its like catching a stone chip on the windshield.
I would try and find a better dealer, some are just real sticklers for warranty work since usually it pays peanuts. Also maybe try 20" wheels, should give more clearance. |

I'm sorry to say but this sounds more like a design flaw than a manufacture's defect, so it's not unreasonable that they don't care to assist under the warranty coverage.
I mean, how do you really expect them to address this if there isn't anything faulty? |

I don't understand what you want the dealer to do? When there is little space things will get caught. Ask anyone with big brakes and low wheel clearance. It's not BMW specific. If you didn't want this issue, should have gotten the blue brakes (since your in the UK).
To me, it's like saying that it's BMW's fault all season tires suck in the snow. No, any car's all season tires will suck in the snow. If you want tires that can handle the snow better, get snow tires. If you don't want things to get stuck, get the smaller brake option, or get bigger wheels. I get your frustration, but it's one of those things people with big brakes and low clearance have to deal with brand irrespective.

Happens, and if it hasn’t happened yet chances are that it will. That’s what you have to live with if you want massive brakes. As pointed out above, not a BMW specific problem.

My M2C has been affected by this, too. Under 2k miles and one front wheel has two fairly large scrape lines all the way around the barrel. Sucks, but what can you do. It is ridiculous having such little clearance between the caliper and the barrel. Personally, while huge brakes look cool, I don’t think the M2C needs them. It’s not crazy fast or heavy, and it’s not a super track focused car. The standard M3/4 brakes are plenty capable and provide a much more reasonable caliper/barrel clearance, not to mention easier access while cleaning.

I've had 3-4 BMW's to this. Sometimes its the brake dust shield capturing a stone, but on the M2C with the 400MM's I got a stone caught between the caliper and the rim.
Wow, terribly loud and the car in front of me pulled over thinking it had something wrong with their car :-). By the time I pulled over to locate it it had ground down small enough to get kicked free. PITFA, but its not going to stop me from buying another M car in the future.

Both my front wheels have groves from rocks stuck on the calipers. There is no doubt in my mind that this is a design mistake. Go over to the M3/M4 forum and read all about it. BMW will not go back and redesign the calipers because it would cost too much money so they make the owners live with it. They should have fixed the spun crank hub issue years ago but that would also cost too much money. The cost analysis gurus have spoken.

Plain and simple these brakes were not designed for M2. It should come as an option with correctly sized bbk and 18" rim but BMW decided to put shackles on it to protect M3/4 and to save on development cost.

Not complaining, really, merely giving an opinion. 15.75 inch rotors and 6 piston calipers are overkill for this car. They add unnecessary unsprung weight, as well. The M2C is a hi performance road car, not a heavily track focused car like a GT350/R, M4 GTS or GT3/RS. The GT350 is heavier and more powerful and its front rotors are slightly smaller at 15.50 inches (similar issue with trapping rocks, mind you). The SS 1LE is a heavier car as well, and it has 14.6 inch front rotors. The ZL1, heavier and way more powerful, has 15.35 inch front rotors. All of these cars are quicker around a track than an M2C and have no issues with brake fade that I'm aware of. The scratches certainly aren't the end of the world, but 14.75 inch rotors (with either 4 or 6 piston calipers) would have been plenty big and would've left more adequate clearance for the wheel barrels. |

Sad to say but the 2NH brakes are more for show than anything. You can see Porsche's calipers and the real quality aftermarket calipers like AP Racing are a much more optimized design and lower weight. I would definitely have preferred if the 2NH were optional in the US like the EU.

Meh. I love the brakes. No chance I'm trading those in for a smaller size. The tiny groove is a small price to pay.

Not to mention, the M2C at over 3,500lbs is not exactly a track star, so kind of unnecessary. Still looks stout, nonetheless... |

Drive faster so there less chance for the stone to lodge. Then tell the police you were driving faster due to BMW poor design decision.

This is hilarious. Small stones will always find a way to get near your brakes. Most of the time it will break up and problem gone. If it gets stuck there without destroying itself just visit your local tyre shop and get them to take the wheel off to free that poor old stone...I mean you can also do it yourself |
