I do wonder how you go in parking stations with number plate recognition (which is at least 50% of them down here). Do people just pay the full day rate?

This is Umerica. We dont use these technologies because they infringe on our freedoms, kinda like masks.

Parking stations needing your plate number is not too prevalent over here, the only parking location I remember that they actually jot down my plate number is at the airports..

Public parking locations usually gives you a stub, with a time stamp, which determines the total cost.. You can then the pay with a credit card, at the self-service kiosk. No plate number is necessary..

At least in NY, when it comes to the plate reading systems, apparently it captures either plates, if needed.
In the wintertime, I did an experiment by covering up my rear plate with snow, so I can play it off like it was Mother Nature's fault, if I got busted and when through a toll boot license plate reader.

The system still got my front plate number because they still sent me a bill for the toll, even thought I verified, with 100% certainty, the rear plate was completely obscured. 🤷🏻

So long, the modern plate readers can capture either plate, regardless of the angle, so one missing plate is not automatic anonymity.

Not all US states have front plate requirements, so these technologies when deployed in parking structures are designed to read the plate from the rear as opposed to the front. Thus, this is not really an issue for us in the US.
