Bridgestone RE71RS

hi - my dealer ran out of my favourite rear tires in standard M2 size (265/35R19).

Has anyone used the Bridgestone RE71RS in the next size up (275/35R19)?

I can get the 275 ones on my BBS FI-R wheels but am concerned about the tires rubbing the fender.

Any experiences with this tire and size would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I ran 275s out back but ended up settling on 285s for improved traction. 255/285 is the recommended setup on stock wheels. I also ran 265/285 on the same wheels.

1. The RS isn't available in the US yet.
2. I haven't seen the exact specs for the RS, but the R was a wide-running tire for sure.
3. With the suspension dropped to a bit below BMW's recommended specs, the 255/35 & 275/35 fit the FI-R's like a glove with minimal inside rubbing on the inside front at full lock, and no rubbing on the outside.

A 285 will only give you slightly more traction than a 275 in the corners, and no additional traction for acceleration, and even then it depends on which 285/275 combo we are talking about. I can show you a 265 that's wider than a 285.

245/35 & 265/35 are the recommended size on stock wheels.

255/35 & 275/35 is the most common upgrade on stock wheels.

Apart from a drag vehicle, it would not be recommended to run 255/285.
To maintain the balance of the car you'd want to keep roughly 20mm between the front and the rear tires.

Are using a mudflap behind the front wheels? Do you plan on being at MX1 again this year (I looked over your car and especially those wheels last year)?

Yes, I sell AP Mudflaps, have about 5 sets at hand but next week is BMW Invasion so likely gone by then. But I WILL definitely be at MX1, I'm the M Chapter President and MX1 is one of the chapters main events. Registration opened yesterday, I also bring some to MX1.

https://mx1.bmwcca.org

We will have M Chapter Day's at the a Performance center also.

Where are you located? We have three caravans heading there, I led the Florida one last year, doing it again this time.

What rim width are you running?

I'm looking at getting some tyres for track use, I can either go up to a 9.5/10.5 wheel which I think should still fit stock suspension with a 255/275? Either that or I just get stock width wheels...hmmm

Good, I want to look at the flaps up close! I live about 20 minutes from the Performance Center / CCA HQ area in northern Greenville county, so MX1 is just a short drive away.

Just installed the RE71RS in 255 front and 275 back on the FI-Rs. They fit nicely!

Thanks for the guidance guys!

They look and fit fantastic, and I'm sure they will perform even better. Wish we could get them here in the USA.

9.5 & 10.5

And yes, the 255/35 & 275/35 on 9.5 & 10.5 fits great, even with the wider running tires like the 71R, AD08R, 888R, etc (if you're dropped a bit more, or have a bit more negative camber).

Sweet thanks, will probably head down that route once I can get my hands on Apex VR5S wheels in 19s...

They're listed at TireRack finally. TireRack also has a test report comparing them to the RE-71R.
