Quick M2 question
I've tried to find this information on the internet but cannot for the life of me. I'm looking to buy an M2 and want to know what model years have which engines. What years have the N55? What years have the S55? What about the B58? Don't think any have it but it's worth asking. Thanks in advance!

That's different I wonder why they did that. Which engine would you say is better for reliability, tune ability etc etc

I'm sure you'll hear owners of both engines claim their's is better. The S55 is the one in the current M3/4 and is more powerful than the N55. I'm sure both engines are fairly durable and tunable. I know my buddy in his S55 M3 is at close to 700hp.

Would recommend test driving both, they are different in the way they feel and deliver power. The exhaust notes are very different as well, and was a primary reason I opted for a 2018. That's not to say the S55 sounds bad, it's just my preference. I also have a 335 with the N55 and I just love the engine in general. So I've got a bias towards it. Honestly at the end of the day I'm not sure you can go wrong with either. Just depends what you want most out of an engine. Good luck in your search!

M3 and M4 competition have the same engine as the base M but with a higher horsepower tune. |

It seems the n55 is more reliable but doesn't have a lot of headroom for tuning. The s55 has a lot of room for tuning without any other supporting mods, but in general only don't like how it sounds. |

If you want better engine sound and a better looking grille and back end (no cow udder), get a 2016-2018. If you want better performance and handling on a track and more tunability, get a 2019+

They could've easily put in a b58 without any trouble. The F22 already comes with a b58 in manual and auto configs already in the m240i. |

Is the BMW M2 worth it?
First time post sorry if I get procedures and stuff wrong My dad is a pretty big M collector, we've had 15+ M cars since the E36 came out currently we have an f10 m5 and an f80 m4 (we have a few collectors pieces that hardly get used, ex m4 gts, m3 csl) my dad seems set on getting an m2... is it worth getting? Considering an m240 is faster on the top end?

If your dad is an M car collector then he won't consider the M240. It is simply a trim level of the regular 2 series car, not an M series automobile.
An M2 CS will be the most collectible model of the M2 generation and likely the one your dad will want considering his other choices. |
