Upgrading to 20" wheels - M2C

Thinking of upgrading my M2C to 20" wheels. Complementing the 20" with a 245/30 front and 295/30 rear tires. I'm concerned with ride comfort from wider tires and narrower sidewalls.

No plans in the immediate future to modify suspension system or lower ride height.

Advise from those that have upgraded their M2C will be highly appreciated.

a 50mm tire F/R offset is gonna be super unbalanced if you like to drive your car hard

Unless you're doing it for looks only, and don't care about hurting performance, then I would reconsider.

Interesting feedback. This particular well-known wheel manufacturer recommends the tire set-up I noted in my original post. Everyone's feedback makes sense and I'm now certainly reconsidering this mod. Thanks!

I ran this setup with michelin 4s tires and it rode better than the factory 19s with contis. Also handling didn't have a noticeable difference. Could still stab the throttle and slide/ oversteer corners with ease. Lots of vehicles run a 50mm F/R spread.

Thanks for the feedback. My interest with this particular mod is widen the rear tires. The past high performance cars I've owned came with wide rear tires.

But I don't want to upset my M2C's almost perfect balance in stock trim.

This thread should help with your research.

Will changing the tires kill "the magic"?

It’ll probably change the characteristic a bit, but I wouldn’t go as far as saying ‘upsetting’ the balance.
Then again, I wouldn’t consider 20” wheels as ‘upgrades’ performance-wise.

Just my $0.02

Excellent missive. Covered most if not all my questions about the mod. Also your insights were well suited to the topic.

Not sure I totally understand your goal. You want to go to 20" wheels to go up in tire width?

I just went from stock 788m wheels to apex EC-7 which are a half inch wider and put 265/30/19 front - 295/30/19 PS4S

Spend some time on the wheel threads and read the research people have put into it. The setup I chose has the closes to stock rolling diameter while maximizing tire sizes.

I should have been more explicit with my mod goals. Yes. I know that can source out a rear wheel with the correct width and correctly fit a wide tire. I was also thinking of the 20" wheel aesthetics.

I would not trust any wheel manufacturer that recommends 20" wheels on this car. It can be done, for sure, they are everywhere (loads of cars with the 666M wheels), but it's certainly a performance and ride (exact tire for tire) downgrade.

If you MUST run a 295 rear tire, choose the 275 front. 30 sidewall for both.

The ONE plus to this is the fact that your car will "appear" lowered because the overall tire combo will be taller. Stock OD's are 25.8/26.3, this combo (in a PS4S) will be 26.5/27, so .4 less gap in the front, and .35 less gap in the rear.

The right 20" wheel/tire combo can look fantastic, but don't kit yourself, every performance parameter will suffer.

You asked me to post some pics of my EC-7's

It's the ET28 setup apex posted, staggered 265/30 295/30

Sorry for the bad pics, I haven't had a chance to do a good shoot with the new wheels.

Thanks. Sweet. I like it! Spoke with Apex yesterday. The rear wheels in Satin Black are on back order. No date but could be sometime next year.
