I will never buy a bmw again due to cost to activate Apple CarPlay
No huge drama but over here in the UK I just bought a new M2 competition and no Apple Car Play on a £58k car!
In the last 3 years I have bought a basic VW Polo and a Ford Transit van and both come with Apple Car Play. So a basic car that cost less than 20% of the M2 has car play but BMW want me to pay £265 to enable it in my car I have emailed customer complaints who basically said tough but they will consider the complaint in the “future” I have informed them that I will never buy another BMW (neither a car nor motorbike....which I currently also have) again as a principle. Yes a pretty silly principle but still a principle to me. Superb professional long term view from BMW UK. |

I do understand where your coming from and it's an individual thing, my take is the cheaper cars have less development in other (most) areas. I.e. engine, suspension ergonomics etc and it is listed as a payable option on the website so I was prepared for it.
A Porsche is much more optionable than any BMW so there are worse culprits. I'm sorry you have that opinion but my opinion is I will by another because even though I've had to pay £265 twice for both my BMW's after £40k odd another £235 is acceptable to me for an add-on I desire especially as the carbon mirror covers I want are well over that. What makes it worth the money for me is how I feel about it every time I see it or drive it not the CarPlay even though I like this option |

Music connectivity features used to be a $700-$1000 option for German cars. I wish there were options for a better sound system, surround view cameras, dash cam and maybe a few more perks that I haven't experienced yet. Eventually car play will probably become standard but by then the other companies will have a lot more tech because features and price are those companies' main competitive edges that they are focusing on to stay relevant in the market. You can't expect German engineered car companies to compete with other manufacturers on tech any more than you can expect them to compete with them on price. With that being said, once bmws start being built in mexico, they better be competing more in price and tech but that's a whole other rant.

That sucks and BMW is like this, but you knew what you were getting into, right? When I got my M2C, I switched my connection to phone via BT and not Carplay. I feel like I can program all my soft buttons to my phone book, etc. and I can stream most apps via the BT. With Carplay, all phone functions have to be controlled via Carplay which means many more steps.

In the USA Apple car play was a $300 per year option. It just recently changed to life time subscription after many consumer complaints. Keep complaining over there. Maybe you get the same resolution as USA.

Should've done your research. Never assume a car will have something. We see tons of people buy cars from other dealerships assuming it had this or that and get angry when I tell them it doesn't have it.
Also just pay someone like 100 bucks to have it enabled after the fact through a 3rd party software. Seriously I can't understand some of the things people complain about. Had a guy had some unknown named phone, with an offbrand branch of ATT, his bluetooth audio wouldn't work in his 2020 x3. We tested it with other X3s and same issue. Paired our own phones and they worked fine. Told him it was the phone, didn't like that answer. WELL MY 60K CAR SHOULD CONFORM TO ME PERFECT STANDARDS! So I told him we'd bring it in for service and investigate it, for 2 damn weeks I got text after text after text saying how it's BMWs fault that his phone wont work. It's not his phone he says. Car comes in for service, in for 3 days. BMW determines it's his phone. He's still upset his 60 dollars phone doesn't work with bluetooth audio. You can't make everyone happy. If you don't want possibly the greatest modern BMW that the company has ever made over 1 tech feature, I think you bought the wrong car. Last edited by MrOhnoez; 03-16-2020 at 03:51 PM.. |

As someone above said, a lot of people complained enough that BMW now offers Carplay on all their BMWs sold in the US as a standard feature without any yearly subscription. Also it got to the point that all idrive 7 models will come with Android Auto (sadface since i prefer my Pixel over my iPhone). Send in enough complaints and they will make the change.

I'm not going to beat you up over your feelings. Enough of that above. But I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would want to listen to anything other than the sweet sound of that engine as it winds up through the RPMs. I keep a Queen CD in my car to listen to any time I'm parked but staying in the car. Other than that .... VROOOOM!

I like free as much as the next guy. But if apple CarPlay is the primary factor when selecting a car, then the m2 isn't for you.

Is CarPlay something one considers when looking at an M2C? I've barely looked at any of the bells and whistles it has other than the freaking awesome performance characteristics it has.

I admit I'm confused. You intend to buy an M2C. You had to have known Carplay was not included. You then go ahead and buy it anyway while insisting you'll never buy another BMW again.
Am I miss something? |
