How much less rigid is a roof/car truly if it has a sunroof in it? I've heard that's why people avoid them. Is there any objective measure / stats on it?

Modern cars have zero loss of rigidity with a roof.

I think the two main reasons might be:

1. it adds 40-50 lbs of weight at the top.
2. you lose headroom so it'll be hard to wear a helmet.

One more possibly:

3. more things to go wrong and even possible leakage when thinking about long term ownership.

Interesting… I had never researched it, just heard somebody tell me it had to do with rigidity.

I do track my car, though maybe 5 days a year. For someone who's 5'8" though, I don't think with a moonroof the helmet headroom would be an issue, would it? And with the seat in the lowest position...

Sunroof is extra weight at the worst possible location on a car.
