No more than the M4 CS did.

For example in 2012 the AMG R&D chief Tobias Moers referred to the BMW 1M as benchmark within its league when talking about the Merc A45 AMG prototype: "But I soon realized that this was a unique opportunity to rewrite the rules, to set new standards and eclipse the competition. From day one, I wanted this car to better the BMW 1-series M coupe." (http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews...amg_prototype/)The BMW 1M heritage is still highly acclaimed and - unlike the Mercedes A45 AMG - its (resale) value still pretty strong. The M2 also got very good press and sales exceeded expectations. It looks that the M2 CS won't be a 'flatliner' either.

I would be very surprised if BMW would decide to offer the M2 CS as M-DCT only. IMHO this is will be an aspect where the analogy with the M4 CS won't match.

The M image is not dying in the sense that they have no innovative ideas or products as they were innovative with the technologies applied on the M3/M4.
It's just that competition (AMG, Audi RS, Alfa...etc) has caught up in the ultra high performance sport saloon sector. That's why I think it is alright for the M2 CS to have better performance than the regular M3/M4 as the CS range should have the best performance at the moment when they are first introduced. Then newer regular models will have equal or more performance then the older CS cars and then newer CS cars will come out to top that. Porsche and Ferrari had been using this approach for the last 10 years at least. |

"M2 Competition" test mules: a healthy mix of M-DCT and 6MT = credible tell-tale sign that 6MT will be offered.

I think it will come with a manual. I belive the only reason the m4 CS doesn't is because of what it's built for and the torque it puts down, the M2 will be no where near that limit.

Manual yes, but the freaking name of that thing... Let's hope it is M2 CS, and not competition or competition pack.
It becomes such a mess if it is something with competition in the name. You would not like to see this... M2 - M2 Competition - M2 CSL M4 - M4 Competition Pack - M4 CS - M4 GTS What a mess that would be... MR |

It's funny you say that. My favorite color is Orange, but IF I get a CS - I think it will be LBB LOL.

I really like the silver render, stick a carbon roof, mirror caps and a front splitter on that and that is one good looking car. It is all a shot in the dark re: Hockenhiem silver at the mo as nobody has seen it but it is all good fun!
Undecided re the orange renders |

That rendering in silver looks very nice.
I have never liked the colour sunburnt orange. I think it looks too brownish for my taste and too luxurious on a sports model. For such a sporty car a lighter Orange (M3 GTS?) would look awesome. |

Thanks for the info.
If you run your set of VINs through a public BMW VIN decoder and you decrease/increase the last numbers in a logical order, the following series of 16 USA-spec "M2 Competition" test mules shows up: M2 Competition - USA (2U73) | F87 (MUE) | COUPE | LL (= LHD) | S55 | 3.0 | 302 kW (= 410 hp [metric] or 405 hp [mech]):
Couple of points to note when taking a closer look at those USA-spec VINs:
WBS2U7C58KVB08882 (M-DCT - Alpine White) (Sep 21, 2017): WBS2U7C5XKVB08883 (6MT - Hockenheim Silver Metallic) (no production date indicated yet):
