Isn't the right thing to not manipulate someone to doing something for you?

So here's a couple total newb questions:

Do i-Step updates mess with your coding, like mirror fold-in, chimes, start-up disclaimers, lock tweaks, etc.?

If you are running a Dinan Stage IV set-up with the Dinan piggy, will i-Step updates mess with any of that?

At the moment I have two complaints that I'm going to mention during my next service: low RPM stumbles when the card is cold, barely noticeable, only last about 20 seconds.
My main complaint is the TCS kicking in at high speeds when I had the car on winter tires (square setup). I was in 6th gear going 110kms, wanted to accelerate but the TCS wouldn't let me.
That one is going to be impossible to prove because the summer wheels are back on.
I hope the dealer will believe me and do the right thing but if I can hit them with a common iDrive issue to give them another reason for reflash it would be nice.
That's not enough to get a free reflash.

The only way they'll re-flash the DME is if there is a recall or a verifiable issue of which they can't solve otherwise.

That's more a last resort option for dealers, as the latest software can open up new issues with compatibility of older hardware.

Absolutely, and it's not something I would typically do. Also it's pretty much asking for bad karma, I would probably end up with real iDrive problems

But at the same time I bought a car with 4 years of free maintenance and I believe software updates should be covered.

Ah, yea, I agree that we should get free software updates, especially within the maintenance period.

I wish there was a simple way we could do it ourselves. I did link something earlier in the thread from BMW's website for a software update by updating via a usb file, but I'm not sure it's the same thing as an istep update. I also read that the software on their site is often older than what many people already have. I haven't tried it yet, because I've been spending too much time with my car and not enough time working lately lol, and I don't wanna go through and recode everything I changed.

Updated again last night with the latest PSdZData (v.4.16.32) - F020_19_03_522_V_004_001_000. Seemed to be new software for DSC and FEM for my 2016 M2 DCT

Just had the latest update to ISTEP F020-19-03-530 (v4.16.40) - changes as compared to F020-18-07-547 are:

- Steering improvements: only slight compared to F020-18-07-547, but this will seem like a massive improvement if you are coming from an early OG or LCI release.

- Traction control: seems to be slightly less DSC induced lag in Sport mode now

- ASD: I honestly don't think it's working at all (and someone else has posted a similar experience). Could be a +/- depending on how you view ASD. Personally I didn't mind ASD and missed it at first, but driving at speed there is alot less introduced white noise and I can actually hear the stereo now (!), so I think that I will get used to it.

Update :

Asd is working, but it's like it's been turned down to volume level 3 (instead of 10) - I can hear the bass kick in slightly when changing to sport mode, but it's much less than before.

Burbles seem improved.

Idrive maps are presented in a different format.

Could updating the ISTEP software cause issues with BM3 being locked out?

If the latest istep fixes whatever hack bm3 is using to flash the dme then yes. I don't think anyone has confirmed or denied if the latest n55 istep blocks bm3 obd flashing of dme.

I've got software version N18092I. My M2 LCI is from May 2018. I've got this annoying problem with beeping after going from reverse to neutral, it happens from time to time. Also, my bluetooth seems to sometimes break the connection during the phone call. Is there any newer soft version than mine? I don't know if asking dealer to fix this is worth the time since it's happens only sometimes.

Yes both issues should be resolved with an istep update.

Sluggish apple carplay - is that resolved with an istep upgrade? Also looking to get it to stop beeping when taking it out of reverse.

Just checked and it seems I'm on: NORTH AMERICA EVO 2016-4 NBTevo_J16383I

I feel that's way way way old.

Does installing an istep update reverse all the coding you do, like door chimes, mirrors, etc.?

Yes, you'll have to re-code after an istep update.

Looks like both of issues (with bluetooth and reverse beeps) was resolved by update, but I didn't feel any change in steering feel and traction mode. Probably I had newest soft there already

Irritating PDC beeping (in neutral) also still here and I'm on software NBTevo_Q18491I (pre LCI / MY 2017)... Does anybody know why this still is? My dealer said they update every software possible (in trying to cure my bad FM/DAB reception).
