Same here, if it works for you, keep it.

I've toggled it on/off many times since I paid for BimmerCode and been bored, which confirmed that ASD does not add drone or actual exhaust sound as some have claim, it just supplements the resounding bass from the exhaust that's loss when the doors and windows are close shut.

It's difficult to put into words without demonstrating it but there is no actual exhaust noise pumping into the speakers from ASD, it's just a sublet bass that varies based on engine load and is not "in your face" unless you're WOT. You still retain your "real" exhaust noise with ASD as a filler.

I am naturally a skeptical person and if I felt it was implemented crappy, I would love to pile on with everyone else and bash it but the technology is indistinguishable and the complaints are unfounded by folks who prefer an attention-seeking external exhaust.

A "performance exhaust" adds zero gains in power or practical weight reduction, why else would someone want one on their vehicle other than the "look at me" factor.

https://www.bmwblog.com/2016/06/16/v...-sound-design/

The M2's stock exhaust is already louder and more emotional in comparison to 99.9% of other vehicles on the road, no need to add to it.

Coded ASD off 2-3 days after getting the car. MPE and car sounds much better without fake/enhanced sound pumped into car. Thank god for BimmerCode.

I feel the ASD is annoying and stupid. And it has nothing to do with attention as I have kept my car stock. It's about personal enjoyment. You might as well drive around with headphones on that pump out exhaust notes all day if you want to listen to fabricated noise.

i installed my asd bypass a few days after owning the car. I can say I am very happy I did it mainly as you can now hear the natural sounds of the car, not just a fake exhaust note. Plus the stock exhaust has a great natural sound to it, so why hide it? Also the ASD makes the cabin noise volume unnecessarily loud, especially at low speeds.

You're right that ASD just adds low frequency noise and I think that is essentially it's failing. It's almost as though BMW engaged an audio engineer from the music industry to develop ASD. Boosted bass (+ treble) along with heavy compression dominates just about all popular recordings. It has initial appeal to the untrained ear (just like saturated colours in TV monitors have instant appeal to TV purchasers) but all these un-natural enhancements become tiresome/fatiguing. There is plenty of controlled double-blind testing with audio to prove most human ears/brains prefer a more natural and unaltered sound.

Those who complain about ASD are just having a normal reaction to a boosted bass sound rather than being 'folks who prefer an attention-seeking exhaust'. Liking ASD just means you are in the minority (of course nothing wrong with that

I don't love ASD per se, It's just most folks complains about it unfounded. I bet you anything if no one knew there was ASD built in, there would be no complaints. This guy on the 2er forum made an active 5 page thread on how much he despised ASD. How BMW ruin the auto industry!! So I tried to help him code it out, only to find out his vehicle didn't even have ASD enabled to begin with

I honestly have yet to find anyone who have had driven in my car notice the use of ASD over the exhaust (toggling on/off).

Also, let's be real, no one adds a loud-ass 'performance' exhaust to hear the 'natural' sound of artificial overrun burbles, it's 100% for attention, which is fine, if that's your thing but just don't try to justify it with ASD, it's misleading.

The M2's stock exhaust sound can already wake the dead and all M cars below the M5 doesn't have any sound deadening; so even with ASD coded off, why would need to hear anything more 'natural' than that.

I think you can just get a Dinan mid pipe or custom fit one for a lot cheaper at any local muffler shops.

I don’t want to mess with the warranty by changing DP. The best resolve to this is resonator delete.

Smart..

My dealer confirm that the Dinan mid-pipe doesn't void the factory warranty.

So if you're trying to stay legit, that's the best option.

Hi all,

I now have my ASD bypass from TechnicPNP. From what everyone says it's relatively easy to install, but can anyone provide a link that shows clear instructions / photos on what to has to be done? MR showed some pics earlier in this thread from when he installed this on his OGM2, but any further installation information would be helpful.

Here is the instructions. The only change is that the harness now has the correct connectors. https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show...bypass+harness

Also, dont waste time and effort removing the black plastic panel and rear trunk rubber weather stripping. . Not necessary. This is what caused most of the problems people would have, putting it back.

In the 2addicts link I can't see where those parts are being referred to among all the pictures. Can you be more specific please?
Thanks!

Thank you. Just did the install. Took about 30mins for someone with little to no experience with this. Definitely makes driving on highways more bearable.

Currently have the M Performance Exhaust. Got the bimmerCode to code off the ASD but still a bit of drone at around 3k RPM. Any idea why?

installed the ASD bypass, did not take the black plastic off, took about 15 minutes end to end. its significantly quieter in the cabin now except for a drone at 3k rpm where there really is a lot of resonance / drone.
