Mud flaps
Anyone install mud flaps? Did you go fronts and rears? Which brand?

Look at post #1623 and down. I think they look really good, and would help keep rock chips off the rear quarter. I might swing by Lowes or something and grab a small sheet of ABS and make my own. It would also keep dirt and other shit off the side of the car, which seems to happen right after I wash it. Last edited by Conissah; 02-26-2020 at 09:01 AM.. |

Thanks. Searching around I also see these from IND. (I am interested in the interior CF trim kit and the CF mirror caps). These seem cool but I want protection more than cool

I have the ones by Automotive Passion similar to what IND offers. They seem to work well and there are zero nicks or chips from rocks on the side of my car but I also have full carbon side skirts to add to the protection.
FYI, I got my arch guards from BAN_M2C the price was similar to the IND ones. I think he has access to other parts if you're interested in some carbon bits for your car, so it might be worthwhile to send him a message. Last edited by Economatic; 02-26-2020 at 12:02 PM.. I didn't like any of the options available and made my own, starting from DeeZee DZ17939 flaps, which are about $17 on Amazon for a pair. They have a nice shape and matte finish, and are stiff enough to hold their shape but not so stiff that they won't conform to the fender radius. I also like this level of stiffness to prevent damage -- if for some reason the flaps hit something, they will flex.
I did a trial-and-error fit on the driver side, then used that as a template for the passenger side. I only did the fronts, but a similar process would work on the rears. These re-use the same rivet holes for the fender liners, but required different push rivets. Toyota part # 90467-05090-B1 is a perfect match. I do not recommend using the BMW rivets from the liner -- they flare out more aggressively (meant to grip a thinner range of materials) and could potentially crack the paint around the fender holes when forced to grip the thicker layers. I also added an additional larger push rivet near the bottom to secure the flaps to the fender liner. So far they have been working great and look good. I have a 1/8 mile gravel driveway and was hearing/seeing chips on the rocker panels, but since putting the flaps on it solved the problem. After going through the fit process I think it makes sense to have the flaps sit against the fender liner and not between the fender liner and the painted fender lip. I know many of the aftermarket flaps do that, but I just don't think it's a good idea for many reasons. I made paper templates from my flaps just in case I ever have to do this again. |

So here is a list of things I'm thinking of adding to the car. Anyone done these and can share pics or tell me how hard they were to install (especially the CF mirror caps)?

For the flaps, I didn't want to spend $100 on carbon ones, and I don't really like carbon anyways, so I made my own. Cut up a $4 black trash can, drilled some holes, and presto, have my own guards / flaps. What you all think? I love them, and I reused the factory plastic clips, so it all looks OEM. |

Caps were a pain to install. I'll go to my car and take a look, and tell you some tips later.

Okay just checked, main thing that's annoying is prying them off, make sure you start prying by the hinge.
