Coming from my E90 M3 with enhanced premium sound the HK system in the M2C is shockingly bad. Took me about 5 seconds with it on to realize its terrible, its actually offensice to my ears. For a $60K car I expect a alot better. Anyway..

I coded out ASD on my 2020 M2C, creates an annoying hiss / faint buzz through the speakers which I can hear when I open the car door and sit down in the drivers seat. However if I then turn the car off, make sure its fully powered down, then turn it on again it often goes away. Weird.

I have the ASD bypass cable on my desk ready to install.

Unplug the speaker behind the iDrive screen, it will help tremendously with the sound quality. That center speaker BLOWS.

Seems to indicate the following is not 100% true?

I had the harness on order when OP created this thread, but I will first try bimmercode before installing the harness on my 2017.

Tom, if you find yourself in Cary I'll be happy to code your car for you. Or you can stop by my work (in Raleigh) whichever is more convenient.

PM me.

In my experience, coding is not the same. Unless there is an issue with my amp which i highly doubt. bri1042's earlier post explains the technical details pretty well I think.

Finally installed ASD Bypass today. 30 Minute install as described. My 18 did not have the black tray as some have stated. Overall definite improvement. Stereo sounds clearer, engine sounds coming from exhaust where they belong. However am noticing some aggravating squeaks I never heard before because ASD must have covered them up. No big deal. Will have to chase them down.

ASD bypass harness and burbles

If I install the ASD bypass harness will it disable burbles like coding out ASD does? I currently am BM3 stage 1 and I know coding out ASD turns them off so I was wondering if the harness disabled burbles as well.

Thanks!

My harness did not disable them and there's not really any reason it would - unless fake burbles are part of ASD (I didn't really have it active long enough to know)

It won't. It's an electrical bypass not an actual coding disable

So does coding it in ESYS cause issues with the sound system? Can anyone verify?

Do you wonder what the car sounds like with ASD disabled?

Drive in comfort. AFAIK ASD is totally disabled in comfort.

Yeah, the exhaust flap opens differently so in sport/sport+ the exhaust note and burbles will make the car sound a bit more in certain situations. But for testing what a disabled ASD does... just drive in comfort mode and it's turned off.

I am not sure if the above is true or not, but I just installed the Technicpnp ASD by-pass on my 2020 M2C yesterday and I was amazed at the difference in all modes.

First let me say I installed it because I believe (IMHO) manufactures pumping fake sounds into the car to make it sound good is BS. If you want your car to sound good then build it to sound good.

I really didn't think I would be able to notice any difference. After the install I drove in all modes, around town and on the highway. I accelerated hard and drove normal. The car is stupid quiet inside now! I honestly don't know if I like it. It takes all the engine, exhaust sounds out of the car. With the windows up I can hardly hear the engine, any burbles or exhaust sound. I find myself revving the engine higher and holding lower gears at higher speed because you can hardly hear the engine now! I was perfectly happy with the stock exhaust before, now after installing a $55 part, I think I need to spend thousands on an exhaust. I am going to drive it for a month or so and see if it grows on me because I still think it is BS to have fake sounds in the car, but at the same time I am amazed how much of the driving experience has been removed with it!!!

Positives:
- Easy install, 20 minutes from start to test drive.
- You can easily talk to a passenger now.
- The stereo does not need to be turned up as much.

This is just my opinion and review of the part.

Good update which confirms I’m on the right path. I ordered it this week and am looking forward to a quiet interior with the windows closed. I am ordering the fender seal strips to insulate the interior even more. When I do want to hear the engine, I will look forward to driving with the windows open. Best of both worlds for me!

Anyone here actually regret disabling ASD? Would be great to hear their thoughts and inputs on why they did!
