Shortcut buttons

Hi all…for the 1-8 shortcut buttons on the dash, what types of things are folks programming? Simple stuff like navigation home, etc or something more interesting? I’ll be tackling this on the weekend.

So far only 1-3 satellite radio stations and 8 for screen off, it's nice to just have the screen black instead of the sat nav or music showing up.

5-7 is navigation directions I use on a regular basis, 8 is tire pressure monitoring screen. Haven't found a use for 1-4 yet.

Screen off is a great use. I’ll be adding that.

I haven't programmed anything in mine since the guy walking me through the car on the floor of the Welt during ED, but from what I remember - just about any screen that can be accessed within iDrive can be programmed - navigate to said screen or application, and once there, press and hold the button you'd like to program for ~5 seconds.

Wow, I was thinking old school and only assumed those buttons were for radio presets HAHA. Thank you for this thread, my mind is opened. I can't wait to program some screens! Screen off is most def getting a button, then texts, then nav address for home etc. I wonder what else I'm missing with the tech in this car.

Cancel Nav is a great idea. Is there anyway to switch from say FM to Blutooth, or do you have to shortcut to Media and then select? Was able to do that with the G generation cars.

I also have Tone to change music settings if need be.

Also FYI if you hover your fingers over the buttons, the screen will show what you programmed those buttons for. Pretty cool and handy.

The important ones

1: navigation set to my house

3: map with a zoom level that’s useful

5: takes me to the music on the hard drive

6: exterior lighting

7: immediately play Eurobeat

8: screen off

other ones are blank for me.

Ha, I didn't even know there were fog lights - assuming they are rear fog lights?

Sorry, i should've said "driving lights." The LEDs around the headlights, i like to turn them off when i'm backing my car into the garage as it faces my neighbors window.

Same here, I have mine set to the bass control when you press the 7 button. Then all you have to do is twist the knob to adjust it.

You can get the buttons to work with CarPlay. I have one set for maps (Waze) and one for music.

Wifey phone number
Kid 1 phone no
Kid 2 phone
Bluetooth audio
Presets audio
Tpms
M performance display

The worst part is these dont work if in Carplay mode. And I coded in full screen Carplay and it wiped out the soft key memory
