I'm super anal about my cars, and I don't trust the dealer any further than I can see them. But I'd do the replacement and say many prayers to car and religious deities alike. I'd want the car fixed, and I wouldn't want to give up "mine" either.

Good luck! You should ask for some pics during the repair to have as documentation....just a thought! |

Might be worthwhile asking the service manager or tech in charge to take pictures/videos of the critical parts of the process; or even better if they let you observe it. |

Ask for your old roof also. Not likely but doesn’t hurt to ask for a garage ornament

Hey everyone, just a quick update. The body shop that is handling my roof replacement contacted me to let me know the replacement roof has been ordered. The part number is 41318081169. I'll keep you guys in the loop once I get more info.

Definitely ask for the old one back. That would become one nice piece of garage art.

If you get a chance to ask them to take some photos of the process that would be invaluable - it will be the first known CS roof replacement and others may have to follow suit. You'll be contributing to the community in invaluable ways and winning kudos in return

well essentially if it's a manufacturer defect, BMW would want that part shipped back to them for further analysis. If they find it to be a flaw during manufacturing process, I would think a recall is issued to certain owners to affected VINs.
I know Porsche does this as i have inquired in the past, requested if i can have the part back and hang it in my wall. For obvious reasons, it was rejected and was told it's going back to Germany. However, if this claim went through your car insurance, i'm pretty sure, they will give it to you no questions ask.
