M2 on U-Haul Trailer Tongue Weight?
Does anyone know offhand what the tongue/hitch weight is on an M2 loaded onto a U-Haul trailer? I'm trailering my M2 to a trackday next month behind an RV and planned on renting a U-Haul trailer. The RV is rated for up to 8000lbs towing, but I believe the hitch weight is only 500lbs. I want to make sure I'm not blowing this number out when hooking it up. Anyone have any idea?
Thanks. |

From experience with them, it will be a lot. The trailers are already front heavy for safe towing. You might have to back it onto the trailer due to the low front bumper.

If you can, source a normal car trailer. This was when i picked up a Speed3 project many years ago, look at how much of the car is past the wheels: |

Can you back the car onto the trailer? Being a front-engine car, it would move the weight to the rear of the trailer.
Edit: Nvm. M2 doesn't have the big of a f/r weight distribution difference. Might not change anything. |

Definitely do not back the car on the trailer. It will make the trailer tail happy and quite dangerous.

Ya, I wouldn't load it backwards, I know better than that. |

Sorry, I did not, but IIRC, when you reserve the trailer on the U-Haul website, it will ask for details on the tow vehicle, hitch rating and about the vehicle being trailered. I believe they calculate what they need and tell you if you have a working combination. The website won't allow the reservation to proceed if, for example, the tow vehicle is not enough to pull the trailer/car. It's been a few months since I reserved mine but I think it also checks out your hitch rating.

Just to be clear, I was asking if loading it backwards was a good idea, not suggesting it. I don't know anything about towing, just had an idea.
I supposed the areodynamics of a backwards car aren't the best. |

I'd be more concerned about the weight distribution. I think the center of gravity needs to go between the trailer wheels and the hitch.
