Yes, if you’re going FBO and have an aggressive tune, this could help. It’s definitely a benefit for people using E85.

You're better off getting a tune, chargepipes, downpipe, and intercooler.
This is also true. I would assume if your normally maxing out your pump like I am, you have a weak pump.

The F series n55 hpfp is notoriously weak from the factory when tuning especially with ethanol. However if you're maxing out your hpfp on a stock car something is definitely wrong.

Definitely possible to reach the limits of the oem hpfp before turbo on the M2. Not by a great deal but certainly possible. The BM3 OTS maps tend to be on the hpfp limit especially around the 5-6krpm area. There’s performance to be had over these maps.

Over in the U.K. and parts of Europe guys have installed the XDI-35 pump while on oem turbo and made gains even on 99 ron fuel.

We have also seen a m2 use the b58 hpfp which was sufficient enough to run e40 fuel and max out the oem turbo.

How do you know you're "maxing out" your pump?
Do you drive WOT all the time?

Is there a good way to tell if low rail pressure is caused by a bad high pressure pump or a low pressure pump that can't supply enough volume?

If you're stock and the hpfp isn't supply enough pressure likey it is bad, or you have some underlying issues like a fuel leak or the lpfp is not supplying the hpfp with enough fuel.

If it's tuned then it'll be harder to tell.

Otherwise codes will be another key indicator.

Yep, that was pretty much my question. Fuel leak should be easy to spot.

I would think that low pressure from either cause would trigger the same code.

Was it determined the b58 pump actually flows better than the one with n55? I seem to remember reading that linked thread that some people did not find any improvement at all.

Just a short question:
I've got a B58 HPFP (BMW part.no. 13517642466) here in my garage.
Does it work any better than the standard N55 pump based on producing more fuel volume? Is that the Evo5 or Evo6 pump?
Or do I need the 13518631642 pump necessarily for running Stg 2 turbo?

Thx in advance for your help.

13517642466 is Evo5. Better than original but not that much.

On stage 2 turbo and no ethanol (or just the 5% that is in some regular gas) you are fine with the orignal one. With E30 and my TTE 550 turbo my orginal HPFP crashes.
13517642466 might solve it for E30, I dont know for sure, have one laying around but didnt think it was worth installing in the end.
Have a 13518631642 that will arrive on monday that I will install.

Running

Ok, thx for your explanation!
I'm planning on running 500-520hp (engine output, not whp) with a TTE550 and the B58 hpfp, so with regard to your thougts I won't get into trouble with fuel supply!?
I already installed a Walbro 450 lpfp..
Do I need anything else? Tmap sensor? DV+?

Not too bad, as well!

My current mods on engine-wise are:
- Wagner Evo 2 Competition IC
- Eventuri Intake
- HJS 300cpi
- Akra Evo Exhaust
- Walbro 450 lpfp
- TurboPerformance Charge- & Boostpipe
- PureTurbos Inlet pipe
- Ecu custom tune (435hp/640nm) with Shell 100 octane

During winter months I'll install the TTE550 with the B58 pump and see what happens. Otherwise I'll upgrade to XDI or the Supra pump.

Europe has the best octane, but 500 crank hp, or 450whp (Dynojet) requires 19~20psi (uncapped), which is more than RON100 can handle, unless it’s freezing cold all the time.

Not many tuners want (or have the skill) to work around octane. Race gas, WMI or ethanol would make things a little easier.

B58 Hpfp Vs B58 Supra

Below are some pictures to show the difference between the B58 and B58 “Supra” pumps
Differences are heavier, a little bigger, connector orientation, Thicker and different flange round top with no dent and some more.
Now to install...

Rondavouz can you template the flange modification on a sheet of letter paper and scan it for us? Everyone seems to do it themselves but it would be nice to be able to do the modification prior to taking the intake and old pump off.

That could be a recipe for disaster. You should really mark it while it is in position because if the template js even a bit off you risk absolutely messing up the flange, which already has barely enough space for the modifications if you have to redrill due to a mess up you risk the bolts being too loose or having holes too wide to properly secure the hpfp.

I totally agree with f87source. It’s not just a cutting operation

Here is a quick outline sketch just showing the difference in size and location of things. And then there are physical lines in the way too.

So below is just for fun and nothing else.
Inner line is original M2 hpfp
Outerline is b58 Supra hpfp.
Lines on the outline is connector orientation. Big box is electrical connector.

You guys are right, just looking at other pics the flange/pump clock position of the HDP6 relative to the OE pump makes it impossible. You really have to template the existing with a piece of cardboard then overlay the new pump to get the right angle prior to cutting and drilling.
