Oh yea I'm aware of that, I have one myself.

Was just noting how dropping it that low for a M2c would result in that lol

Looks good. I can tell you that the OG M2 muffler and pipes get extremely hot so even using high temp paint may not be enough to last a long time so don't be surprised if you have to repaint from time to time. I had some IND black chrome exhaust tips (first set they sold) and after a track day the black chrome peeled off. Since then they have them coated with 1200 degree F ceramic coating. Even with that coating you can see slight color changes over time. Successful paint is all about the right prep and right product so this is a good thread to keep alive in the technical area as folks learn more about how to do this successfully long term.

I've been looking for a reason to experiment with Cerakote high temp ceramic coatings. For sure that isn't the easiest DIY thing to do and couldn't be done in situ. From personal experience, paying to have firearms ceramic coated; it won't be cheap. I'm guessing $300-$500. OP proves that blacking it out hides the bulbous exhaust well though.

I've used VHT ceramic header coating(flat black) before on a M3 exhaust. It lasted 3+ years, sold it still look like the day I did the job.

Did you do any track days? I've done powdercoat and ceramic....looks good until a few laps and then it burns off.

I don't mind re applying. Just needs to be done for the time being until other exhausts come out. Do you have a better solution?
I ended up buying tips that were already black from the manufacturer. I tried powdercoat and ceramic....both burned off after a track day. I think I had them burn off after a dyno day as well.

OP painted the muffler box, not tips. Competition tips are black from factory.

It's about time someone did this! Nice job OP.

I wouldn't powder coat it, waste of time and $$$. If it ever flakes off just touch it up with the rattle can, inexpensive and easy. The correct procedure is listed on the can, a series of coats and heat cycles for proper adhesion.

If there was longevity concerns, ceramic coating it would be a good solution.

I've used ceramic coating on exhausts, exhaust manifolds, and turbine housings; on turbocharged race cars, and have never had an issue with flaking.
