But as soon as I breathe near the accelerator, the M4 pushes the tail wide in what proves to be one of the most frustrating 20-minute drives of the whole week. It simply cannot make use of its – admittedly excellently brawny – engine. A fact compounded when I swap into the Corvette and absolutely murder it using nothing but third gear. The Stingray really does make mincemeat of the BMW.

I wonder if something was going on with the rear tires.

^Always a possibility, but they literally brought along their own tire truck for the trip so I doubt that was an issue.

Yea, no widebody. Looks like a 235 with different wheels, CF roof, and quad-exhaust.

To be fair, that review is the outlier. It's the most negative review I've seen of the M3/4. Continuing in the thread of fairness, it was in the company of some cars that completely outclass it:

McLaren P1
Porsche 918
Caterham 160R
Corvette C7
Cayman GTS
Jaguar F-Type R

Every one of those cars, with the exception of the Jag, are a more focused sports car than the M3/4. I'd imagine that after spending the day driving them, hopping in the M3/4 would be about like hopping in a BRZ after having driven an M3 all day.
