If we are to do a small production run of these,” explains Karim [Karim Habib - BMW’s design chief and the man responsible for the 2002 Hommage], “they’d also be carbon fibre. Because it’s about racing. I don’t know if the people [who might buy one] will be collectors or actually want to take it out onto the racetrack, but I’d like to think they would, because that’s what this car is all about.”
Surely making it out of carbon fibre would make any potential production version quite expensive? “If you see today [at Villa D’Este], the Astons, the Ferraris, the Maseratis and Rolls-Royces that people are prepared to pay millions for, I think it was never entirely sure if people were prepared to pay really big money for BMW. It seems there’s a market for it,” he adds.
Uh-oh, sounds like that's gonna be part of the 'Unobtainium Range': limited production, fancy six-figure price-tag and all spoken for before launch by collectors with deep pockets. A pipe dream for mere mortals like us.

Oh yeah its entirely realistic to expect that. But theres loads of people going "oh I'm first on a waiting list so i must be guaranteed to get one".
I just don't expect it to pan out like that. The price tag will be the smallest hurdle to cross if thats the case. Hope to be proven wrong though.

And there is an M4 testing something similar to this.
Which is a rendering.

So the M2 gets a different cold air intake? Doesn't it already take cold air from the kidneys anyway? Or is this for something else?

I was thinking direct ducting to an oil/trans cooler, or some extra intercooler cooling. I wouldn't want an air intake pickup right there.

I think they were talking about one model a year, so given the GTS was this year then I wouldn't expect anything until early next year.

They've been doing some work on the M4 though, so who knows what comes out first. It's also hard to imagine that if Scott is teasing things now that it would come out in 2018. So yeah my guess is announcement in Q1 2017, availability mid to late 2017.

The M2 came out in 2015 as did the M4 GTS.
You need to learn Patience. They won't release a new model straight away.

Speculation, affirmative.

But it was never a secret that BMW has an M2 variant in the works. Presentation and type name: only BMW knows.

Speaking of GT4's... a few weeks ago, I was over at the Welt... and I saw a guy on ED drive up from Stuttgart in his brand new US spec GT4. I had to chuckle to myself... bc the lure of the Welt and the BMW brand is high - even for P-owners.

That was me. More a BMW guy than P-car guy anyway. Was meeting two friends picking up two M2s that day.

M2 test mule with S55 engine: 07:44-ish (8 seconds faster than the 07:52 clocked by the M4).
