I had an integra type R that would just drone through trips like that on the motorway, this was really quiet sitting in 7th gear. Bit of road noise because of the low profile rubber but nothing terrible unless you're coming from an S class or something similar.
Awesome.. Thanks for the response. I think it keeps the exhaust valve closed or something like that in comfort mode. That's been my main concern since reading that a month ago. Besides how my kids are going to like the back seat.

I have to say in my opinion even the non performance exhaust sounds absolutely savage in sport. BMW have taken a lot of shit for the way recent M cars sound but I doubt anyone will lose sleep over this one, it screams.

Looks like your car will not be properly break... I thought we should not exceed 4500 RPM for the first 5000 km (3000 miles) on a new BMW. Maybe I was wrong.

I was told 2000km by the M guy at the dealership. At this point it gets a service in which they also enable launch control.

He was very explicit telling me that they did a decent amount of work and adjustment during this service and to stay under around 4.5k until it was done.

Thanks man! It seems I'm the first in Europe, yeah. Weird.

DCT seems great but I'm not in sport hammering it yet so I can't speak to that part.

Congrats ! Drive it in good health.

As it's a DCT, the 6MT one-million dollar question still remains unresolved: is the 6MT gear stick illuminated ?

Nice! They could have done better at the clean up on the front though. I would expect more from BMW on delivery (or was this after you have driven it a bit?).

On the sound, when you say it lacked bass does this mean it doesn't have the under-seat subwoofers like my 135i? I am not too concerned, as the music coming from the exhaust will likely be too good to cover up, but am curious.

Correct - In comfort mode the valves stay shut until around 4000rpm. In Sport modes the valves are always open however they close at certain points for performance reasons.

That was after a few hundred KM

I'm going to clean it up this weekend and take some pics with the M4 somewhere more attractive than an underground carpark ;P

I'm warming to the sound now. This will sound ridiculous but for the first day I had people in the back of the car, now that its just me it sounds far better. There does appear to be a sub under my seat.

I hope what you mean is that our respective neighbours will definitely lose some sleep !! Think I will have to park it down the road a bit so my 0500hrs early starts don't rouse the whole village !

I reckon you'll be okay in comfort, the difference is quite dramatic.

For me this is the one big advantage over the MPE of having the exhaust flaps controlled by the driving mode rather than a stupid bluetooth remote that you have to fumble for.

Those bluetooth controllers have some newbie / geeky showroom appeal.
But they're just a gimmicky kludge. Leave them to the Fast 'n Furious demographic.

Bluetooth and exhaust shouldn't be used in the same sentence. Half of the bluetooth items I purchase fail for one reason or another.

Imagine having to enter a pointless Bluetooth PIN number like 0000 to connect to your brand new performance exhaust #TheFutureIsComing
