There have been various discussions and lots of talk about a Shooting Brake.
The actual market for such a vehicle is very small, and the term I actually want to use is minuscule. Currently, the best and only real example that I can think of is the Ferrari FF and that is a market for one car. I don't fall for Mercedes-Benz calling a station wagon a Shooting Brake. They are using the moniker to daze and confuse buyers into thinking its something new, which everyone here knows is a STATION WAGON. Americans won't buy a station wagon, or at least in numbers to justify their existence in this market. Americans have a love affair with SUV's, CUV's and in BMW speak SAVs. People tend to buy the car they want instead of the car they need, which is a long winded way of saying they but way too much car/SUV. A Shooting Brake is for an enthusiast, a guy or girl that couldn't care less what anyone thinks of them or what they drive. These particular people are the real individualists, they march to the beat of their own drum. I have no idea with whom to credit for this rendering, but they have some serious talent. You will see a little BMW E36/8 M Coupe, a little F87 M2 Coupe and large helping of Ferrari FF. So, who would be down for one of these? |

I simply hate the term "shooting brake. "
Nice render though. Badass. Americans would go for this over the M135 hatch but it's basically the same shape. |

If they had imported the M135 hatch to the US, or even if they offered the sport wagon with the 6cyl and a 6MT I wouldn't be here to even see the cool render.

I would be all over one that looked like that. M135, not so much. I like hatchback versatility, which is why the Golf R is high on my list.

He gave it boxed fender flares from an E30 M3, and the front is flared as well one just has to look at the way he has light hitting the metal. |

Yes. Very much Yes. My wife would go for it too. Her greatest wish is that BMW bring the 1 hatchback to the US. She currently has resigned herself to her Cooper S, giving up hope on a small bmw hatch.

Knowing BMW, they would call this a "Gran Sedan"; since the "Gran Coupe" is a 4-door sedan with a hatch, it stands to reason that a Gran Sedan is a 2-door coupe with a hatch.
"Shooting Brake" is such a ridiculous term; it implies a high probability of brake system failure. Being a British term doesn't lend it any credibility, since Brits call these: this: Once they sort out their linguistics of dessert vs. breakfast I'll accept their automotive terminology.
