I know it's for pedestrian safety but I just feel like Europeans should stop walking in front of cars even if they have the "right-of-way". My dad always taught me as a kid; you can be right but you'll be dead-right if you don't look in every direction for a car. I applaud the effort to save lives but perhaps we should look for ways to avoid the human/car impact altogether.

I've heard that before, but I don't understand how that cut line makes pedestrian impacts more safe. Is there a crumple zone in there?

The way it was explained to me is the bumpers and hoods are designed to lessen injury to a pedestrian that's hit at low speed by deflecting them away from the vehicle rather than through the windshield or over the top.

U.S. Cars are also adopting the standards, look at the corvette bumper for example.

I have no idea what the rules are, maybe they only apply when a certain production level is hit - sure don't see the 458 or 918 with that goofy shit.

I hate to beat a dead horse, but that still doesn't explain that cut line. I've read similar things that higher grills and less slope in the front-end are designed to reduce the distance that a pedestrian "falls" on to the hood, and to impact them more at the hip area, rather than the legs. How does that cut line lessen injury or deflect them?

I just don't understand how that cut line makes pedestrians more safe, versus having the hood connect at the grill? I'm looking for an explanation of the mechanics, not the rules. I get that the new rules say: your design must incorporate safety features for pedestrians. OK, so how does that cut line make the car safer for pedestrians? I'm sure there's a reason; it's just that no one seems to know it.

My only guess is that by having the cut higher, the grill can compress when hitting a pedestrian. A giant sheet of steel (a hood) isn't flexible at all. To the contrary, I would imagine that the leading edge of a hood acts like guillotine to the legs when it impacts a pedestrian. The grill underneath deflects, but the hood does not because it is A) a huge piece of steel, and B) rigidly mounted to the car.

That's my guess, but I don't know. The difference in "softness" of that grill versus a hood.... I just don't know if it makes much of a difference. It's like choosing between getting smacked in the head by an oak baseball bat or a pine one. Doesn't seem it would make much difference to me, but I'm kind of thick

Because the cut line at the grill makes the first point of impact more likely to be at the edge of the hood. That's a great force over a small area. Like a knife.

Having the hood line higher reduces the chance of having the edge of the hood slam into you at a near 180 degree angle. instead, the front bumper portion can fold inwards when it is hit by a hip, for example, thus causing the hit pedestrian to roll onto the hood, rather than impacting the the hood's front edge.

There's an engineer's perspective.

Very very nice. I'm sure it will be a little different but for all that we know, I am in 100% accord with this render. This is sweet.

The hallmark M2 color might be either the rusty orange-ish tea color, or the yellow-ish color of the Lipton tea label or the red-ish color of the Lipton logo posted a few times by SCOTT26.

But many say it's for the M2 to offer a similar colour relationship with Valencia Orange introduced on the 1er M Coupe to be on the successor of that car which will be the M2.

Despite being the launch colour for the 135i Coupe the order rate was not successful hence why it was replaced at the LCi.
What cars they will come with is anybody's guess at this time.
After the new BMW X5M and X6M that will be launched later this year. The M2 will be the next all-new M car. There will be a hiatus until the next M5 but in between there will be the M4 GTS which could use the Orange colour as a nod to Fire Orange.

I like the look, especially the combination of Alpine white and carbon fiber! And it will be even cleaner w/o the backup sensors!
