The badge of white looks like it's m240i. To my eye it looks better. There's just too lines on the front end of the M2. The M240i also looks wider. The grills don't seem overdone

Tend to agree with this…it's hard for me at this stage to see the G series design being "timeless" and aging well. But time will tell.

I've always felt the F87 was one of BMWs best designs…almost on par with the E46…so no matter what the G series looked like it was going to be next to impossible for BMW to match in my eyes.

Still looking forward to the unveiling of the G87 though. I'm sure it will still be a good looking car, But planning on holding on to my F87 for as long as possible. It's not often you get one of the best drivers cars BMW has ever built paired with one of the best designs BMW has ever produced.

My son asked me, "Why would you never sell the CS?", to which I replied; "Because when I die, I want them to bury me in the CS"

The car is that good, full stop.

Reading some comments I'm glad I sold my M2, seems to have become a fanboy car. And the CS seems to be something like a Ferrari F40, c'mon guys it's just a Bmw 2 series.

I would if I could afford to buy one! I daily drove my M235i/6MT/RWD year round in a place that averages 90" per season of snowfall.

In California it would be a complete no brainer.

I think its my amateurish photography skills. The F87 is really similar to the E46 in dimension. In the photo, you can see my car was parked a little closer than the others too. Now, the F87 parked next to my buddies Elise, the F87 looks down right massive.

Of course it's not an F40, but it is in the class of the E30 M3, E46 M3 CSL and 1M. Try picking a lowish mile example of those on the cheap.

It's pretty rare these days to have a 6MT RWD coupe with the classic good looks, and very good daily utility. The Costco run is a great example, and taken mine to Costco for big runs several times. The only substitutes I can think of are the special Camaros and Mustangs that are also not cheap. They are personally not my taste, although I really like the Shelby Mustangs for what they are.

Yes, it takes a rare breed to spend $100K on a 2 series, but there seem to be enough of us out there.

The G42 almost looks misshapen or deformed compared to the F87. And I really really wish they'd stop making all the cars bigger. The F 2-series was just about the perfect size for a sports coupe.

And more power to ya for using the CS as a DD. Enjoy the hell out of that amazing car!

I also owned the 1M, still just an entry level BMW in my eyes (with a mediocre engine moreover).
There's no doubt that the F87 was a great car and has set the benchmark in its class, but we're still talking about a 2-series, the coupe version of the 1-series, it's like a (great) fast food in a world full of Michelin starred restaurants.
This fanboy attitude is just not for me.

^^ +1

If you have not spent any seat time in a CS, you will never appreciate how special it is! Just a fact!

What happened to the orange reflectors next to the front wheels on your CS? I thought they were mandatory in the US (?).

That's right, I do as well...COSTCO (at least the one in Houston) has very wide parking slots, for those who come shopping with a truck big enough to fit a palette of peanut butter pretzels, so I don't have to worry about door bangers

Don't be so sure… there are very creative door bangers out there.. you give them a three car parking space and they still figure out how to win the door banger of the year trophy

BMW has done a good job of making modest coupes/sedans into great cars lately. EVO picked the M2 CS over a McLaren 765LT for car of the year in '20 and an M5 CS over a 911 GT3 touring this past year. The xDrive G80 M3 has been universally praised.

A number of YouTube car reviewers last year compared the steering in an M2 CS to a 458 Speciale.

It's not fanboyism when something is universally praised, it's just a really good car.

Different strokes for different folks. My father, who's in his 70s, has owned exotics from most of the big boys (Lambo, Ferrari, and McLaren). He loves sharing them so I drove them all a lot, we still live 15 minutes from each other.

It's a different experience. A lot of positives that are obvious, but some negatives including lack of utility, unwanted attention, and generally not that much fun once you get past the insane acceleration. Or unless you are at the track or have a well placed area with low probability of going to jail.

I've eaten at Michelin star rated restaurants, and it's also quite an experience. I'm in for that if someone else is buying. Most days, however, give me a fresh piece of blackened grouper from my fish shack that only locals know about, where I can enjoy for a fraction of the price without being pretentious.

Both in pictures and in person I'm finding the G42s front end the hardest thing to get used to. It just feels too round to me compared to the sharpness that's all over the rest of the car. I think the good news is that the latest shots of the G87 look to confirm a sharper bumper style that's likely to make it feel more cohesive with the rest of the car.

There's a lot of hate in this thread.

Both cars look decent to me.

But to each his own.

I do think it looks decent in black. I think it's mainly because the side skirts blend in and look body colored.

Haha it is mandatory but I like to live life on the edge. I really hated the look so I replaced them with painted ones. Cops don't usually enforce the minor things. (Same thing with front license plate)
