hearing rumors M2 motor is heat soaking and losing power at track?
I heard some rumblings that the N55 motor in the M2 starts to heat soak after extending track sessions and drops power... is this true? Anyone experience this?

I wish BMW had just put a de-tuned S55 in the M2 to begin with!

CSF Racing has custom designed an incredible cooling package for our car. I have been working with them since last December and have been track testing the prototypes in my car.
It is incredible and very fairly priced. Includes: Radiator Oil Cooler Intercooler DCT cooler They should be available very shortly. They will be on display at my car at SEMA and I will post some pics when I get a chance, but I will be up at Mid Ohio this weekend. I have put a lot of track miles on these parts and the difference over stock is huge. |

Altho, what is your experience with the oil & DCT coolers on relatively stock cars? Nice to have, or real performance impact? |

I don't want to be presumptuous on pricing but I THINK it will be around $2500 for everything. A ridiculously good deal considering some other companies sell intercoolers and oil coolers for 1k each alone. Don't take my pricing as gospel since I am not an official rep for the company. CSF Cooling can chime in here, but I am telling you - these products are exceptional. I worked closely with them on development and made sure they had all of the features I desired as an enthusiast. In fact, the whole point of me reaching out to them was because I felt we were being ignored in the real performance market. |

Awesome. I?ve been waiting patiently for the radiator. Kudos for helping on development! EDIT: looks like they are listing them on their website.

I haven't seen any issues. Although I haven't been out on track in anything above 90 degrees for 30 minute sessions. I think an IC goes a very long way. My IAT deltas are are insane with the stock IC but no overheating. Also the BMW 0w-30 is a joke, redline 5w-30 switch made a difference in temps around 5-10 degrees and won't shear nearly as quick.
Redline 5w-30 or 300v Water wetter and a lower coolant mix helps. Intercooler is a must if not running meth. I'm catless so I'm sure that helps the turbo a bit. I run meth mix on the street with a small cm5 nozzle at 50/50 mix. IC temps on the stock intercooler drop about 5-10 and stay there. I start flow at 8psi street and don't really run it at the track. I just run a 100octane mix. A small nozzle on the track and not using meth for fuel is fine as well. |

I never noticed an issue at the 100 degree day I did. Granted, I'm not monitoring temperatures of everything, but the car sure didn't care and the very limited temp gauge we do have didn't budge. Sure, you will likely have more consistent power with upgraded cooling I wouldn't equate that to being required upgrades just to do a hot track day.

My experience
I have a bone-stock M2 6MT with only the Dinan FMIC installed.
At LRP last week, it was high 80 degree temps and high humidity. Sessions were 1/2 hour long and I saw no elevated engine temps or power drop (perceived, anyway). It's difficult to determine exactly w/out OBD data (IATs, EGTs, Oil Temps, etc.) but the car was very strong all day, from run 1 to run 15 each session. I'm sure the Dinan FMIC makes a significant impact here, as the factory M2 intercooler (exactly the same as the 230/240i intercooler) would probably heat soak in minutes...if not seconds. It's a very small FMIC. My $.02 |

If you guys actually log temps with an OBD reader and don't run meth, you will very quickly discover that the car also hits bad oil and coolant temps and begins robbing power even with an aftermarket intercooler.

I was at Laguna Seca today and happened to chat to a mechanic for a Contentinal tire Sportscar challenge M235i that was there today for some testing... they're switching to a M4 GT4 today and he told me that while the M2/M235i has a smaller radiator and room to put a bigger one, with the M4, BMW decided to put in the largest radiator possible so it never has the same cooling issues.... Very occasionally. But if you log your coolant temps you and boost/throttle position you will see the ECU closing the throttle electronically and pulling timing as temps rise, and this is repeatable in moderate temperatures. I couldn't hit 140mph down the back straight after the first lap at mid ohio before these cooling upgrades and now I'm comfortably sitting at 143mph through an entire 60minute session with Chin.
