Upcoming SC Performance Center Delivery

Hi All,

Paperwork has been signed on my order from August I think it was. My new m2c hockenheim, 6sp sunroof executive build and I will be together Tuesday 12/18. Super excited and happy to post videos. Curious how easy I need to take it really once delivered. I recognize I will he given other cars to drive but then to take it easy may be tough. Let me know your thoughts and if you would be interested in delivery pictures or pictures from the Greenville experience. Also is a valentine one still the way to go, hardwired in? Thanks.

Valentine 1 is no longer the best out there. Check out radarbusters.com

They test and have them all rated.

Drive it however you want when you get it, imho. Breakin protocols were probably relevant a long time ago. IDK but no one(including the engine manufacturer) has any data to support the process improves longevity.

That said, probably take it easy as you get familiar with the car.

I mean, in the manual, it specifically says to not drive faster than 106ish mph and not to rev past 5500 rpms for the first 1200 miles (then do the break-in service). Oh, and don't just cruise at a constant speed either.

Yeah they dont want you to die in a car you're not familiar in

There's no data to support modern engine reliability to specific breakin protocols. If there is I'd love to read it.

As discussed in the long thread months ago, the vast majority of the break-in period is not related to piston ring seating (which on modern production engines occurs very quickly) but instead the rest of the drivetrain, specifically the clutch disc to pp/flywheel interface, the bevel gears in diff, LSD clutch discs, etc. These mechanical interfaces take time...nothing special, just time to mate with much less than full load capacity demands is all.

M2C4ME, ENJOY the day that the PC! The folks there are fantastic and make it a super fun experience. The entire track at the PC was just repaved (long needed) recently too. It's been 17 years since I did PC delivery of my E39 and took my father with me -- he had a better time than I did I think. I see you're in SC, so if you're a member of the CCA, we have autox events at the PC and at Michelin -- check your emails from the Sandlapper chapter for events coming soon.

I've done several Performance Center Deliveries.
You'll thoroughly enjoy the day. Note the exercises are geared towards learning the car and safety features (DSC, ABS braking, etc) with one good lapping exercise and usually the off-road course in X models. You should also get a factory tour, very impressive!

Regarding break-in, I do follow the RPM and max-speed recommendation for 500 miles but then ramp it up a bit. I broke my M550i in on the Tail of the Dragon, right at 500 miles. It seems fine now.

I agree but there's w/o data I'm not buying into any prescriptive protocol other than "better safe than sorry".

Such a blast. Some pics in different light. Color is great. Orange interior lovely. Can't wait to be done with first 1200 miles. Dealer said they open it up when changing oil and diff. We shall see. Any before and after measurements out there?

His outgoing M2 was Long Beach Blue. I think he was staying with that.
