DME
Wow, please update us on progress as to how you do this. My tuner was a bit loath to do this as he said a lot of other functions on the car rely on the original DME to function correctly. If this does work I'm in

The moment you connect the old DME to the car which had the "locked" DME you will understand what I mean. |

https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=27024806 however you noted later that the poster here said he went and got a JB4 and you wanted to know what the story was with that. I don't know if he ever got back to you? |

The DME and certain modules are unique to each other apparently. When a dealer orders a new DME from the factory it is assigned to that chassis number, not sure what/why/how?! I know of two tuners in the UK who have "virginised" DME's to try and retro fit them to M2C's with the new Bosch software DME's without success. On a good note, it seems a software tuner has had success regarding a "bench unlock". I'm waiting on more news |

Three, I think?
2018-sometime in late 2019/early 2020 M2C: Flashable via OBD-II port Sometime in late 2019/early 2020 - mid 2020: Bench-flashable Mid 2020-present: Locked At least that's how I read things? My M2C (Feb 2020 build) was bench-flashed by Carbahn but I couldn't use their optional tablet to go to/from the original OEM flash that the earlier cars could use with their OBD ports. Could be wrong? |

My DME's production date was July 5th 2020. I've heard if it was produced June 2020 or before it can be bench unlocked. Just missed the cutoff...

Different drivers though. The DME unlock is merely an inconvenience which can be 'cracked' with a bench unlock. The new Bosch DME stuff is an outright block to any ECU tuning. Considering this change will affect BMW, Mini, Toyotas and other brands that use the same Bosch DME it has a huge effect on the aftermarket industry. Also consider that the effect of such a block will increase exponentially as newer models are released. There is a big driver and a lot of money behind ensuring this gets broken. But, we'll see.

With this in place I wouldn't bet on it being cracked any time soon. You'd be better off installing a second ECU piggyback like they used to do back in the day before OE ECU cracking. All the engine function is taken care of by the secondary ECU, but primary ECU still thinks it's in control. |

Or just query the DME via ISTA like I said above. There's no need to remove the DME.
