This one does look good though.

That's a darn shame, Paul's render looks really good.

I never said it was cartoonishly big. It looks a little wider and longer than the previous grille. I think we'll all be alright.

It’s almost like they’re making it look goofy on purpose....like the 1M’s bug eyes...they don’t want it to be as good looking as the bigger brothers.

Because they’re afraid it will sell too well....

That’s my vantage point - I didn’t mean to imply you’d said that.

Most plausible reason is for cooling, check out all that's required to cool the s55. Gatte's comment is reassuring "a little wider and longer" (I'm sure there's a sex joke in there), seems less crazy than what the minds eye is seeing.

I was thinking about that - but the current M3/4 don’t have enormous grilles.

I’m not sure the change is functional but you might be right.

I LOVE the look of m3/m4 front end. they could design it similar to that and I would be a happy boy!!! Once again it comes down to the power dome. I dig it!!

The M3/4 were designed with the s55 in mind and here's the crazy part, they had to install the oil cooler under the engine because there was no where else to put it. Here's the crazier part, some people ran over stuff and actually punctured the oil cooler and before they even got a warning the starved engine seized on them! This even prompted IND to offer an oil cooler guard for the M3/4. Truth be told that's the only thing I want to know regarding the s55 in the M2c, does it also get an oil cooler underneath? I certainly hope not, and if making the grilles larger gets around that it's cool by me.

Excerpt from IND's oiler cooler guard...
"...you must have enough heat exchanger surface area, and you must have enough heat exchangers. When examining the front of an M3 or M4, then, we see the hard work of the M engineers in packaging the various cooling components of the car. Everything had to be accounted for, and given ample space, surface area, and ducting.

Unfortunately, this leaves the S55 engine’s oil cooler precariously exposed. A direct impact to the oil cooler can have catastrophic effects, draining the S55 of all of its oil in seconds, a fact that more than a handful M3 and M4 owners have had to learn in a painfully direct way."

I remember that debacle. To think some people damaged the oil cooler by simply parking in a stall.

I was one of the first to get a 135i back in 2008, yet I never warmed up to those headlights. I finally got rid of that car and got a e92 M3.

note: never liked the 1M because of the name and the headlights.

That’s good news,I prefer the the initial photoshop grille that he did.The second one doesn’t look good with the design of the front bumper IMO.

Before the 1M was actually made, there were renders that made it look like a baby E92, which would have been awesome. I had two 135s myself, and the front was ,y least favorite angle of the car - the 1M was brilliant in almost every right, except perhaps the head on angle. You can’t escape those lights.

If they had made it look as good as the E92, they could have never keep the production limited. Too many people would have wanted one.

PS - I think the 1M looks awesome from every other angle by the way.

Word is no top mounted intercooler as well. Have to find some more air somewhere.
