Edit: You also all forgot that all those weight numbers are for base models, and loaded 328 with m235 performance bits and pieces will weight more then what's on the websites. The real difference could be as little as 100 pounds when you add EDC, Adaptive lights, 18-wheels, and bigger brakes And "not as fun or as well balanced a car for everyday use"....you can feed this bullshit to others, up until last week I had S2000 which I drove for 5 years and back to back with M235i. S2000 was obviously fun in handling too when you take the ramps at crazy speeds close to triple digits.....but thats not really daily driving. Kind of off the subject, but I've always heard good things about the S2000. I remember when it came out. It had the same HP as my E36 M3 (240).

In general I am a manual transmission fanatic. My M4, S2000, and 4runner all have MT. Wife has an X1 with the 4 cylinder N20 and the ZF 8 speed. The engine paired with that tranny feels pretty quick. The 228i feels even quicker with the ZF. But with the manual transmission the 228i felt off to me. Felt like the gears were spread too wide. It's maybe just what i'm used to, you might feel different if you have never driven a car with the N20 and ZF.

I can't see ever getting rid of my S. Though i've only had it for three years. 2001 with 37k miles...put about 3k miles a year max, and about 6 track days a year.
I'd have to say that i think the 6 speed in the Cayman S is about as good as the S, and the pedal placement for heel toe is even better. Cayman S is without a doubt my next car. Better than the S, better than my M. Quote:

I read the article and all I have to say is that to each his/her own. The 228i, M 235i or the M2 are all better than most cars out there....choosing among them is like splitting hairs.

I agree. If I had to do it over again, I may have looked at a 228i, but the M2 is the car I really wanted. I'm very happy with my M235i, but in a few years or sooner, if they're still making them I'm getting an M2.

Not many 6cyl-turbo options out there that are reasonable for DD and the wallet. The 235i fit my bill, with RWD, 6MT, i6 Turbo, Direct Injection, German car features galore

My buddy who drives a Mustang liked how "closely spaced they are". I'm not disagreeing with you at all. I think it comes down to what you've driven before. And since you have a m4 and s2000 I'm not surprised you'd come to that conclusion. Always good to get a different perspective. |
