And that’s been taken to another level with the incoming G87

All you would need on the m2c to be faster than a g87 is a tune and maybe some wider tires.

Not entirely. This is why there is a philosophy of beauty, and why you can easily find the "more beautiful" version of anything with a quick poll. Most humans want to see the same type of things, with "most" being the operative word.
That's interesting, as I find the M2 to be very photogenic, and I'm pretty damn particular. |

Long time listener, first time caller. To be honest I already regret typing this, but....
I currently drive an LCI Mineral Grey Metallic, mostly stock with carbon fiber splitter, spoiler, black kidneys and black side whatever the fuck those things are. Best car in the entire world! Period (I guess that was actually an exclamation point so here you go.......). Seriously, the G87 does not have the looks, is heavier, full of tech, bigger, and way more expensive. And what's with the limited color options? Did BMW run out of paint? Supply chain issues don't explain why we have "kinda blue" as the premier option. Not to mention the cod piece on the carbon bucket seats. 70K for a car the smashes you in the nether region every time you get in or out seems like a bad idea. I will be sticking with my 2018 LCI M2....until the check clears. Better tech. Better looking up close than you think. Better interior materials. Better engine. Better suspension. HUD. Better seats. Bigger cabin. A new warranty! Did I mention all the tech? And half of it is paid for with the old car (because it is still holding it's own). See you all (eventually) on the G87 forums... |

Lol nice writeup.
Just to add to this never-ending debate, as soon as I saw pictures of the G87 two years ago, I pulled the trigger on one of the last new F87 Comps in the US. Today, I found myself driving to the dealer to take a look at a BSM G87. The G87 doesnt look "beautiful" but I do think it has the aggressive, "new" look and definitely has more presence on the road vs the F87. Aside from performance, BSM hides alot of the lines, but in the end I think you just need to "embrace" the new boxy design. The biggest flaw in my eyes are the taillights, but tbh I never loved the F87 taillights either. It does look significantly longer than my F87- loses the iconic stubby look of the M2. In the end my F87 is only two years old, couldnt justify trading in this early, but if I were looking for a new car, the G87 would be my top pick.

It hasn't fully grown on me yet.
Lately, with new BMW designs it can take a while. When the F87 came out it was instantaneous....

I think the G87 is the best of the new Ms. But I like my M2 better.

I just saw a G42. I think it was a 230i. This was the first time I've seen a 2 series in person. It was still kind of strange looking, but it looked much better than the pictures. I actually liked it, and wonder how the M2 would look in person. I still prefer my F87, but the regular 2 series doesn't look bad IMO.

The G87 has more presence but the F87 is better looking
I guess you can't really evaluate presence until you see it in person making a judgement on the G87 looking at pictures online it will never win against the F87 what gives it more presence.... imho its slightly larger, definitely wider, more squat aggressive sharper lines personally id have much preferred if BMW had adopted Audi's philosophy just a few tweaks on the previous design rather than a complete redesign, For example the Rs3 design to me just looks slightly better with each incarnation but still keeps the same lines |

I was just laughing at how I was saying I wouldn’t get a G87 not that long ago but now am waiting for one haha
Nothing against the F87, I loved the car but mine personally had some issues that made me reconsider if I wanted to keep it long term.

Sorry to hear that you had some problems. No doubt the G87 is the best current M car.

I have seen some decent looking g87s, I had said it before that some after market parts would make the car better looking and that track builds would actually look good (just like g80), some track builds are looking really nice and the car is definitely a performer. I also think there is going to be much better aftermarket for the g87 which is kinda lacking on the f87 (at least compared to f80/82) |

Yep the g87 definitely will have way more aftermarket support in terms of aero than the f87 m2. Verus engineering is already on board with the g87 and they always deliver some very very nice aero bits. This is something really lacking on the f87 platform.
