All of BMWs processing for voice commands is done using machine learning algorithms developed by BMW and processed on a Microsoft Azure backend. Anytime you use the voice control in a BMW with idrive 4 or later, it’s sending your voice to azure where the natural language processing algorithms make sense of your request and then send the results back to your car. It’s also doing this to search for businesses and POIs when you’re searching for destinations.

No, it's because of the fact that 4/5 BMW owners use an iPhone exclusively, instead of Android.

BMW doesn't feel it's a worthwhile investment to integrate Android Auto into their vehicles since a majority of their owners won't even have the need or desire to utilize it.

However, they do use "Google Assistance" and Google's map and geotag location data. So much of privacy..

This is confirmed in an interview a few years ago when BMW was accused of "'droid discrimination."
this is the answer I got when I asked my salesman.
