I think we may have discussed this in another thread, but BM3 seems to be making 2 upcoming changes relevant to folks here:
1) Reducing boost on top end for the regular OTS Stage 2+ (MM?) likely due to having mercy on the stock turbos 2) Creating a new OTS Stage 2+ (MM?) PS2 map (or big turbo in general) to increase the turbo response in the low end I've been eagerly awaiting the 2nd one to see if it makes a big difference in spool. The car makes incredible power but I do miss the eagerness to kick out the rear tires at 4k rpm (they only kick out around 5-6k RPM now, since it takes a while to hit peak boost). Although, I suppose I am putting down the power more effectively since I'm not spinning my tires, but where is the fun in that Last edited by eeyang92; 08-19-2022 at 01:59 AM.. |

Hey everyone.
Just a quick update that my car had begun idling worse and worse over the last year. It ran great around town and at WOT, just a bad idle. When we inspected plugs, #3 & #6 were black. Because the car was running good otherwise, we suspected injectors were not spraying perfectly, causing a rich condition issue in those cylinders at idle. While we were replacing injectors (https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...-13647639994kt), we went ahead and replaced my FCP Eldor coils (https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...or-12138657273) and NGK plugs (https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...plug-ngk-97506) for "free". Happy to report that the car is idling perfect and running stronger than ever! We weren't sure if the injectors were getting clogged or just worn out, but I installed the Bend Calibration fuel filter for some insurance (https://www.bendcalibration.com/shop...ilter-only-kit). Lastly, I left the NGK's at their out of the box gap of 0.030", and the car is ultra-smooth up top. 0.030" is plenty fine for 480whp & E50 on my setup, so can't imagine anyone needs to gap these down unless they're pushing big power. |

If you run the custom rom with switchable maps - can you make OTS maps the options to switch between?
Looking at the documentation it seemed like you have 1 custom tune and then multiple iterations of that tune to switch between. I was hoping you could switch between CS/CS+/STG 1 using the cruise button. Wasn't sure if that was an option. |

Those eldor coils are the incorrect P/N for S55 fyi and are 10% less spark energy vs the Delphi. They do work (they are the older/weaker design from pre-2015 era) but are not as powerful as the actual S55 Eldor Coil PN R3505S00203
Also to add; the S55 Delphi coils are great and used in many 800+hp cars effectively. The B58 coil conversion is likely the only improvement and while Eldor is a superior brand, the margin of improvement is likely minimal <3% at best for the actual S55 Eldor coil vs the E46/E90Style Eldor Coil which is in fact ~10% less spark energy. To also add, if you have a misfire issue it's likely fueling related (injector plugging or poor tuning) and not spark on these cars. A reminder to run a Bend Calibration filter on your flex cars if you want to help prevent sending trash through your injectors.

Can you provide a link on FCP Euro to the coil you recommend? |

The new version for the S55 is incredibly difficult to track down, but it’s here: https://euroklasse.com/products/bmw-...39496276508855 |

Seems like I’ll stick to my free “old” Eldor FCP replacement coils every 1-2yr that have been working great, or change to the B58 conversion (which doesn’t seem to be needed). |

If it isn't broke, no need to fix.
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...-12138616153-1 Unless you want nearly double the spark energy with a B58 coil then that is the ticket.

So here is a table comparing the various coils for the N55, S55, N54, and B58 done by the guys at nexsys.
As you can see there isn't any version of the Eldor coils that actually have massively different performance levels vs. the Delphi's. The only difference was at 2.5ms dwell time and that was only a 2.22% difference. Then at the upper range the eldor's actually required more (which isn't a good thing) dwell time (3.0 ms) vs the delphi's (2.7ms) to output the same energy. So imo there is no reason to switch from the delphi's to the eldors, it is kind of a money wasting "upgrade" if you can even call it that.

Looks like the Eldor S55 coil is a tiny bit better than the Delphi S55 coil, but depends on the dwell. I have no idea what the dwell settings are for this thread’s namesake OTS map. I also don’t see the older Eldor coil in this comparison, but if it’s only a tiny bit behind the Eldor S55 coil, then that makes it sit around the Delphi S55 coil? IDK. Either way, I agree it’s silly to change coils as an upgrade, unless making the jump to B58 coils. I changed mine bc I was having spark issues even after changing plugs, and I knew even at 480whp it was unlikely I’d need to invest in the Nexsys setup. The Eldor coils fixed my spark issue but sounds like any new coils would have. The are some forum threads out there saying the Eldors are built “tougher” than the Delphi, but I don’t think anyone really knows. Altho, that doesn’t really matter either once you’re in the FCP lifetime return cycle and change them out preventatively every 1-2yrs for free as ongoing maintenance. I remember you saying .26 was the perfect gap on your 97506’s. Now .30 is better? |

The way it should be done, gap down only when necessary, i.e. run the largest gap possible with the stock gap being the upper limit.

Gotcha. I have the pr kit so the .30 should work more than ok. I know you said that before f87source. Have rough idle but drives fine elsewhere.
