When you guys say "code", it's not like coding in the sense of using Terminal w/ MacOS or MSDOS on a PC right? It's more like BimmerCode which is turning switches ON/OFF....am I correct? Coz I'm hyperventilating just reading coding sh*t out. I'm afraid of messing something up.

@F87 your contribution on this forum is immeasurable. Thanks.

No not at all (and technically what you described is actually command line access of the computer, programming/coding would be writing lines of a programming language via a text editor or ide. You could do it directly to a terminal environment using something like nano or vim but either way that's super off topic).

But yes you're correct, it would be like bimmer code which is where you're turning on and off settings or toggling them to something else (this is known as fdl coding). Or it could be vo coding where you're making some changes to the vehicle order, aka changing a few bits of text. Nothing too crazy.

But generally speaking if you can code (code not flash) it on esys you can do it on protool - especially on the older cars (such as the f series) that have been fully mapped out.
That’s fair. I think it is important to call out the distinction between “coding” and “flashing” since they can be misinterpreted to mean the same thing for those unfamiliar to automative software/hardware.

It’s still a great tool, just need to manage expectations and point people to folks like kuba86 if they just want to do the basic differential and dct changes, and don’t care for some of the other coding changes or diagnostics of protool.

Personally I would rather code things myself since it allows me the ability to change it an unlimited amount of times instantaneously - something you don't get to do if you hire someone to code for you.

Then with the dct id rather have xhp as well, because again id rather be able to change things on my own whim.

Only if I can't do something then id hire someone to do it for me, such as generating fsc codes.

Thank you so much for your review F87source. Can I use PROTOOL for G07 LCI coding as well? I see OS8.5 is locked and if PROTOOL can help me unlock some features on my 2024 G07, i can't ask for more :-). I couldn't find or missed any information on this. Appreciate if you could share your experience before I pull the trigger for license.

I am not 100% certain, message the protool team on facebook or their website for more info:

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Thanks for quick reply mate. I posted the question to their email. And got the response as "There wouldn't be any coding tool on the market that can access those coding 2.0 modules.".

Let's hope they or someone will come up with possibility to code 2.0 module.

I tried out ProTool for the first time this week. A few thoughts:

1) Apparently Fire Tablets have to jump through a lot of hoops to run ProTool since they don't have access to the Google Play Store, so I went with a Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite for $99 on Amazon. It's slow, but gets the job done.

2) I was able to use a generic wired ENET cable (that I had from ActiveAutowerke ECU tuning) along with a BENFEI OTG usb-c adapter. I had to put the tablet in airplane mode and change the following in the tablet's ethernet settings to get it working:
1. Set to Static IP connection type, then insert the following in the
corresponding field(s) as listed:
-IP Address: 169.254.250.250
-Netmask: 255.255.0.0
-DNS Address: 1.0.0.0
-Default Gateway: 1.0.0.0

3) This is all described in the ProTool User Manual, which I couldn't easily locate on their website, but can be found at the bottom of their FAQ section here (or within the app itself): https://www.bimmergeeks.net/faqs

4) I coded the F82GTS steering and already like it a lot better than F87 or F87CS profiles. I'll see how it feels on track next month. It seems more direct without being twitchy.

5) I double-checked the diff coding that I'd had someone do remotely in the past. Turned out that the F87CP (comp) profile had been applied instead of F87CS, which is what I wanted . I so I went ahead and coded that to F87CS myself. After coding you'll want to do the diff calibration, which requires the Bimmergeeks Diagnostic license. Couldn't tell any difference on the street, but I'm curious if there's anything noticeable on the track next month.

6) I left the MDM profile stock. I figure I can move up to Euro F87CS profile once the stock profile becomes too intrusive?

Overall, it was a good experience. ~$275 all in. I'd recommend going this route over remote coding.

Nice!

I also have the Galaxy tab A7 lite, and I bought it from best buy Canada for ~$70 CAD on sale so it was a steal. If you disable animations and remove the Samsung bloat ware it's actually fairly snappy.

Dct can't be coded, it can only be flashed. So you need something like xhp.
