Yeh, for convenience. I did phone hotspot for a bit and got tired of doing it. When iPod needed to update etc. now I don't have to worry about it. It stays I the car and just works and automatically update

If I could use my own SIM and just add it to my existing family plan I might do it. But I'm not looking to enter into a new contract.
