M2 CS UPDATE #3 (SEPTEMBER 2017): VIN info of 20 USA-spec "M2 Competition" test mules has leaked (see here with comment here): M2 Competition - USA (2U73) | F87 (MUE) | COUPE | LL (= LHD) | S55 | 3.0 | 302 kW (= 410 hp [metric] or 405 hp [mech]). 2U71 = M2 Competition - EUR - LHD | 2U72 = M2 Competition - EUR - RHD | 2U73 = M2 Competition - USA - LHD Couple of points to note when taking a closer look at those USA-spec VINs:

Except the E36 stayed at 240HP and got 11 more torques which is insignificant. The only real significant change was the Z3M, going to the S54 which was an extra 100HP.

There are a few on 2ertalk.de saying that both the CS/Competition Package (no one is sure of official designation yet) and the CSL will come out as 2019 models with a S55 engine. The CSL obviously being the more hardcore of the two.
So yes. No more N55. Rumors of course. |

.. you mean the change to OBD2 and a more restrictive manifold? I really wouldn't compare the two. Euro S50 maybe..
