Now you're looking at ~65K for a base M3, and ~67/68K for a base M4 when that LCI happens...

What has this done for the M2? It gives BMW more room to breathe, in terms of keeping the price in the mid 50K range - and it gives them a chance to put "more" into the car.

I, for one, wouldn't mind paying more for an M2 (or M3 for that matter) to get it with as much technology and whatnot as possible.

The upcoming LCI price for the M3 might give BMW the chance to do exactly that...
If anything, I'm the opposite haha. Give me manual seats, and take $200 off ect ect

I'd really love to see the M2 start at $51k.

A lot depends on what is included in that base price and how much important options are.

I can see that side too - this just might be a way to further distance the M2 from the 235, while not encroaching on the M3/4.

The more I think about it, the more I am convinced that the M2 is going to be awesome. It will be similar to the 1M, but should be slightly better in readily recognizable ways.

Just wish we could see the finished styling and whatnot at this point...

We know all of this extra fluff, technology and efficiency will be built into the new M2 - like it or not. THAT is what concerns me, not the engine. Its the little things over time that can make for an irritating experience.

I'll still probably get one because there aren't a lot of better choices, but BMW has certainly shifted their passion over the last 10 years from driving excellence to a softer, more luxurious car. Interested to see how this one turns out!

This is so LAME

- Engine noise played through the cabin does not make the vehicle drive any differently

I track my 1M... (not sure if you do... and let me tell you... when my car is hitting 6500 rpm on a straight in 3rd or 4th gear... I WANT THAT PIPED IN ENGINE NOISE. I NEED IT IN MY INTERIOR. YOU WANT THAT NOISE IN YOUR INTERIOR... YOU NEED IT IN YOUR INTERIOR and if you don't think you want it... then YOU CAN"T HANDLE THE TRUTH.

(sorry for the shouting.... I went all jack Nicholson (Few Good Men on you..)

I can tell you that on more than one occasion, I have bounced off the rev limiter for more than a moment, only to look down and realize I was out of revs... because these turbo cars are SOOO QUIET. WAY ** TOO ** QUIET!

-seats, nav, etc remain to be seen

- extra " fluff and technology" - Remains to be seen, however looks so far there will not be much of it.. perhaps the auto blip of the throttle..

I'll agree that's a " feature" I am not necessarily in need or desire of.. but again.. is that really a deal breaker?

note: that's just a rhetorical question.. you've already said it's not..

Since the 1M and the M4 were created in the last 10 years... this " shifting over to a more luxurious car stuff " clearly applies to SOME but not ALL of the lineup... so now that just makes this a list of minor gripes/whines..

If you feel all this stuff " detract from the enthusiast experience"... ok sure..! ... to each their own ... don't buy one.... but that's likely not the case.... we will probably see you in line at the dealer.. still complaining about piped in noise..

I believe that's only a feature in the softer cars. hahaha ! I am kidding....
I know that the S54 powered cars and perhaps some others have progressive rpm lights, however no.. the 1M doesn't have these. It must not be a real M car. Shift lights are available via optional steering wheel, also available at your local dealer.

Those have nothing to do with shift lights. They simply progressively turn off as the engine warms up...think of it as a moving redline.

What we really need is someone to design an audible shift/redline indicator. Had one on an S2000...very useful with a helmet on.

Perhaps we will see the M2(or some form) at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2015 - next weekend. Or maybe at some other bmw event, before the IAA(Frankfurt Autoshow in Sept). I suspect it will be sooner rather than later for an semi offical M2 sighting.

Humm... it might be a good time to swing by Garching for a look-see.

That model looks cute. I need to find some Dijon-colored jeans and make a trip back to Germany! Plum colored jeans would work as well. And a turtleneck and blazer.

lol She's French! That pic was taken at the Paris Motorshow way before the 1M was shown to the public in any sort of way.

Here is what the German model(Dr. Kay Segler) looks like standing next to the 1M. This picture was taken at the OctoberFest in Georgia a few months before the 1M was shown to the world.

Damn it! Guess I'll be returning these colored jeans and blazer. Definitely not the style in France.

Definitely a cool jacket though.

With all this M2 hype, I think I'm just gonna get a 2016 4 cyl 6 speed 2 series. I think that'll be more fun for cheaps. It'll also probably be lighter by 300 - 375 lbs.

You know, I had forgotten about the damn strip tease.

I guess we don't really have much to complain about, but that won't stop all of us from wanting to see the car...then touch the car...then drive the car...etc. It won't stop until we have all had the chance to see what this baby can do.

I drove a stock 228i manual for a couple of days and found it totally uninspiring. A manual 128i is far more engaging.

I read and believe that the potential for a great car is there, but be prepared to mod extensively if you go that route.

Here's the video of the presentation that former ///M Boss Dr. Kay Segler gave at BMW CCA Oktoberfest 2010 (US):

When he was still at the helm of BMW M, he wore his BMW Motorsport leather jacket as statement during presentations of the 1M, E92 M3 GTS and F10 M5:
