F80 owner here, rev match is always disabled in sport+. No need to turn DSC off.

Everyone bitching about auto-rev match.... who has driven a car with it? Just wondering.

It took me a second to get used to the ones I test drove, but I found them rather nice. Should there be an off button? Yes. Is it the end of the world? Not for me it isn't.

I've never driven a car with it, but for me that is one of the most interesting features of the car. My main concern was just being able to get a MT in the first place, so I am content.

I test drove a M3 6MT few weeks ago and liked the auto-rev feature. It was one of the reasons why i wanted to get a manual (current car is DCT).

It's really nice in some instances. I know it would definitely come in handy at the track. It bridges the gap to DCT a little bit.

If that's what it takes to preserve the manuals, then fuck it.

Never drove auto rev, I assume you have to still press the clutch between shifts? It just blips the throttle when down shifting only correct?

Yes correct. I forgot a couple of times, so the car rev matched and I blipped the throttle on top of that. But it makes downshifting super smooth and easy.

+1

And if you're a "tracky" that worries about this, and if you turn off traction control undeservedly, you'll have the excitement of some unexpected mid-corner oversteer that will swiftly motivate you to master manual rev matching: lesson learned and problem solved. This will not be a consideration for the large majority of M-car owners that never see a track.

I know, and that's certainly better than no option to turn it off at all. But I'm not sure how I feel about forcing drivers to turn off all the nannies to do what is really one of the most fun parts of driving with a manual tranny.

Over time, once I got to know the car well and a particular track, I guess I'd feel comfortable enough to turn it all off. But for canyon carving on public roads--maybe not. I don't want to kill somebody because I wanted to rev match on my own and I hit a gravel patch or oil slick at speed and spun out.
How did people do it back in the good ol' days of no tech nannies?
back than there was no "horsepower war" so much easier to control but now, hp/tq is off the charts

That's also true. But roadholding/tyres were also a lot worse than nowadays so many of our sporty driving ancestors without the nannies back in the days you won't find in retirement homes right now but already on the graveyard...for decades....

Reality bites, sorry.

It robs the engine of horsepower and efficiency.

EPS is improving at a very rapid pace.

The rev-matching is really cool with my PDK - it sounds awesome and adds to the experience IMO.

Spoiled brats, DSC off is not going to kill you! All that power and torque are not going to explode in your face when you turn the engine on. Your right foot should be responsible here.

On a serious note - Would it be nice to have the option independently configurable - yes! Should we all bitch to death about if it's not - no! First world problems.

Oh, I know. EPS is crap, car is heavy, mandatory rev matches, butt is ugly, seats are crooked, engine is not bespoke, mirrors are not bespoke. The horror!

I think we should just relax. Get it in manual if you can/want, drive the crap out of it, be happy. They are not making cars the way they used to, let's just accept that. They will not go back to that. Hell, this might be one of the last manual cars we'll see around. Let's just enjoy it, all those shortcomings acknowledged! When all the hype calms down, I know I will.

Peace!

I've no doubt that in the near future engineers at Bosch, ZF, Denso and/or Aisin, will crack the next level of EPS feedback. When enough priority to this particular characteristic is given, it could certainly can feel as engaging for the driver as hydraulic steering. Until then, you have a valid point for the car that is meant to succeed the 1M.

Unfortunately I don't think the M division has enough power to reverse the Fxx-EPS direction that the mother ship has taken. Perhaps when the the LCI or CSL versions arrive, EPS technology will have improved enough?
