Like many have said, if BMW follows a similar pricing structure with the M2 CS as they have on the M3/4, that places it at $84.5K even accounting for DCT removal! At that price or even >$75K it just doesn't make sense from a value perspective even within their own hierarchy.

I do think the Misano Blue/CF roof combo will be incredible though If BMW offered factory options "special"(not individual) paint for $2-3K with an actual selection beyond the few uninspiring choices offered and CF roof $2-4K, I would tick both those boxes. Instead, they have an all or nothing approach. I can personally justify spending $6K for items I specifically want but not an additional $20K for the entire package. I remember seeing another member who used a peel-able paint SMB on his M2, looked great. I'm planning on exploring that option but there's more value if it came from the factory.

Really a shame. A car's color provides character and uniqueness. Some claim the limited choices are due to manufacturing constraints, but I don't buy it. Sure, it will help with production line efficiency ultimately reducing cost, but this is a premium sports coupe in what is perceived to be a premium brand. Shouldn't have to make large compromises on something as simple as color... but they don't care because idiots like me will still buy it

I'll just leave what it looks like to option a golf R here...

Here in the US people are definitely cross shopping American/ German performance cars. A couple GT350 owners I've met previously owned M cars and chose to make the switch. That "American garbage" ie GT350, ZL1 1LE, Z06 will spank some German competitors twice their price and not just at the drag strip. While the interior quality debate carries some merit, the disparity is not as large as some make it out to be.
U spoke my mind. Was blown away by the color choices for the golf r. You could make it truly uniquely urs

OG M2 to M2C is more than just the S55 engine (which by itself is already enough of a reason to upgrade)

You also have real M seats, M-Mirrors, three wheel choices, more colors, etc.

Even more if you're upgrading from a non-lci M2, where you get an actual premium looking interior, more modern iDrive and a bunch of other things

M2 CS will probably sell at 80K+ if not more. Why? Because people are still duped by nostalgia in thinking that all these special edition models will one day become iconic and perhaps even increase in value. Truth is, they won't.

Marketing is genius these days. People need to wake up to it.

The M2 CS will stand out more than M4 CS did. It will have more of a buzz and be within the range of the M4 owner's pay-grade.

Come back in 6 months after it's release and sold out everywhere and prove me wrong
How will the M2CS stand out more? Same engine as M2C, CF roof and a bunch of painted CF body panels.

The Misano Blue really compliments the Carbon additions. My personal favourite is the Hockenheim Silver which gives a good contrast between colour and CFRP.
It is good to see an emphasis on developing the M2 further.
Especially when the Competition has extra untapped potential.

I like the blue...any indication on pricing? Will it be price more aggressively than the M4 CS or shall we expect similar increase percentage wise...

As attached is the BMW announcement plan for China market in 2019.

There is no mention of the CS but as a niche car it could show at some point as well.

I'm going to throw out the wild prediction that they put the M2CS in the 7:30s around the ring.

Well worth the price increase to shave seconds off my daily commute. Oh wait, I avg about 30mph.

I am guessing 72-75k base price. I don't believe you can use the comparison between the M3/4 comp -> CS gap in this case. Two reasons. 1) EOP M4 may play a factor and the M2CS will fill a gap for M4 sales in the 70k range. 2) The M3/4 is marketed as a luxury/sporty GT car that is really trying to take sales from would-be 911 owners. The M3/4 CS just breached into 911 S price territory and clearly that pricing strategy didn't work out too well. The M2CS is competing with the ultimate 'drivers cars'. I see the only natural competitor is the 718 GTS at $80,700. The M2CS has to be under GTS pricing, just like the M4CS is under 911 S at $105,100. Therefore, I would be shocked if this is over 80k base price.

With that said, I am very tempted by the M2CS and will hold off a 718 purchase until pricing is released. If it's near 718 GTS pricing I will go that route, but if I can get the M2CS for ~75k it's tempting. The challenging part for the M2CS is that deals can easily be had on the 718 GTS where M2CS will likely be a MSRP car.
I like your reasoning. I have been thinking the same. I had to unfortunately cancel my original M2C order for reasons, but am now about to purchase again (I am still open to other cars as well though).

I will admit the M2 CS announcement being closer to 2019 (rather than 2020) has thrown a wrench into my plans due to timing. I agree what some are saying that at $80K+ the M2 CS might not offer enough over the current M2C.

But the 445hp, CF roof, choice of Misano Blue, still offering manual, and few other things, if they were in $70K - $75K range, is tempting. Not sure if I saw anything about reduced weight?

My only issue with the M2 in general is that every time I see it, I can't fall in love with it. It is a pretty subdued car IMO. The M3 and M4 just seem more M-ish to me and I thought I felt the opposite for the longest time. The M2 is handsome, but just doesn't scream 'M' in its looks. Just my opinion. For some reason LBB (and maybe some other blue, like Misano) does it justice, but other colors have me wanting more.

Anyway, it is really the M2 CS pricing which everyone waits with bated breath. Because no one is going to deny a Misano Blue M2 CS with CF roof, DCT or manual, is going to be a killer car. There is always incremental changes to every sports car out there, every year. For people who have the OG M2 and M2C, just enjoy it. The M2 CS will be great, but $20K + great, I am not so sure about that.

I think it could look pretty good with the right CF bits attached, but hard to visualize, will have to wait for the official reveal to decide.

That's a good point above on the CF "helping" it out...but I wonder how they make these decisions. I had Lemans Blue on one of my 135s, and that blue was killer.

Any estimates on weight savings from the parts we know to be standard?
I will assume, there will be additional weight savings measures, unknown at this point?

Might get the weight back to or just slightly under OG M2 specs with all the $$$ CF pieces. Still a 3,400 lbs+ car

If you add in the MPE, I think the guesstimate was around ~150 pounds weight savings, but that was with all the available CF pieces installed.

If the CS comes with the main ones (hood, roof, ducktail trunk, MPE), then the cost would certainly have to be 80K+.
