I feel like Ive seen this happen to other BMW models as it is nearing the end of its life cycle. Its a last minute profit grab by BMW. Reviews are less and less on a car that is old news and less critical for something that has been out for a few years. Its different when they launch a brand new model and everyone is going to be hyper critical comparing it to the competition so it needs to stack up. 4-5 years later nobody is going to notice it doesn't have rear comfort access, less sound deadening, removal of storage nets or fold down rear seat levers etc...
The whole new interior design is around cost cutting if you think about it. Sure you can argue its more modern but there are way less components when its all embedded into the screens UI = bigger profit margins. That plus they raised the prices to add salt to the wound. Alan

It is the worst impact on daily life vs the pre-LCI.

Actually... When I first read about it, I was thinking people sometimes complain about things not worth the grief. I don't always have it right, and I was certainly wrong here: It is annoying. And unexpected; I haven't had a door handle not respond to my touch in a long time, it still catches me by surprise at times.

Several years ago I went from an X5 that had comfort access on all 4 doors to a F80 M3 that only had it for the front doors and it irritated me every single time I drove the car because i always had to load my kids in first. Sometimes its especially a hassle when your hands are full and its raining out trying to get the kids in fast. Baffles me that someone at BMW thought it made to sense to do this on a 130K+ vehicle.

This is exactly my use case, I put my laptop bag behind the driver seat and now have to tofu the driver door, press the unlock button then go to the back door.
Would be cool for the person that decided this to experience this firsthand.

Exactly what I do, laptop case behind the driver's seat. I'm tall, so it fits in there just right standing up and can't be thrown off the seat if I'm doing X5M stuff.
I usually unlock before I grab the rear handle, but on the odd occasion, I space it. Annoys the crap out of me that they saved a few pennies I would have gladly paid given the choice. |

I wonder it there can be an aftermarket way to add this rear door opening feature to the LCI car? Every morning I grab the rear handle to let my daughter in and nothing. I am starting to learn to use the keyfob to open it. My Defender had this feature so it takes some time to re-learn.

Same - I had 4 and could not even install the 2 up front because it’s a non-standard size now.

While I am over all super happy with my LCI over the 2021 X6M Competition I traded in for it, these are the things I've noticed that irritate me:
1. No Gesture Controls (I was one of the Few People who actually used them). 2. Headlamps no longer react to Steering Input. Also the Inner Most Lights being basically just cosmetic is so stupid to me. 3. Lower Quality Leather on the Top of the Dash Pads as well as Doors. It seams the Sakhir Orange is still the same Quality as the Pre-LCI but any black leather seems to be cheaper. 4. As mentioned, the lower quality Switch Trim for the Lighting Controls. 5. Ambient Lighting is a Major Downgrade and the B&W Speakers now only allow for White Lighting. 6. No Wi-Fi hotspot in Canada because we don't get 5G Personal eSim. 7. The Active Sound is so aggressive compared to the Pre-LCI. |

2 - is I think the worst, the lights seem brighter but the lack of movement I haven’t had in a bmw since 2006 and even then I think those halogens moved but not sure. Definitely my 2007 moved 3 & 5 - I didn’t notice this but will check next time I’m in there 6 - that’s a bummer 7 - I concur, it is aggressive. If you drop something under the driver or front passenger chair be prepare to have it rattle around since the fake shifts sounds are extra pronounced

7 - I want to see if I can disable it with BimmerLink the next time I drive, haven’t be able to get the app to recognize even my 2023 X3 M40i since my dealer updated it to the spring 2024 version. |

Maybe it doesn't matter if the car is always on a trickle charger or if you do enough daily driving to keep everything full charged up.

My car unlocks all 4 whether you use the fob or digital key so long as you have it set with 4 door unlock.
We're shoes off people, and I have chairs and shoe racks at the door leading into and out of the house in the garage itself to that end. I bring it up because if I walk directly to the car all 4 doors will be unlocked and can be opened regardless of whether I use the fob or phone. If I do what I actually do which is put on my shoes before I continue on; the doors have locked again by the time I'm shoed up and navigate around the car to enter. There is clearly a timer in play that sets the doors back to an intermediate wake that requires you to touch a handle before you can enter if you delay to long after the car initially unlocks. That's where I run afoul of the back door not opening. Since the car unlock has timed out, I have to touch the front handle to unlock the back. I usually remember and I'm getting better at it, but not 100% yet. |

I’ll try the 4 door unlock thing when I’m at the car in the next few days

I’ll have to check tonight. Because the speakers don’t seem to turn on during the day. But there’s no option for turning the white colour option on the speakers in the LCI from what I see.
