this question has already been asked, but is it just me or does anyone else not see a carbon fiber roof? thats such a signature "M" quality there is no way BMW would leave out such a sexy roof!!! sorry if this has already been answered.

no, not just you. it's not there and won't be from what we have been led to believe. I was in the same boat as you with the opinion that an "M" car should have a CF roof but it seems that the rule now is that if BMW calls it an M car it is. could be missing a proper engine, roof, etc. but still be given the M designation....:

It'd be nice to have the option, but is appreciate that BMW trying to strike a balance between performance (which wouldn't be meaningful) and cost (which would be meaningful). |

I realize that I am in the minority here but I will say this one last time...I am one of these guys who could get an m4 but don't want a car that big. I have a 235 now so the M2 has to bring it when it comes to performance and looks. my 235 is more powerful than the M2 will be when it drops so there is that, we aren't getting an M power plant so the focus was turned to weight savings. then came the news of no CF roof... that to me said a lot about where the thought process of BMW marketing is going with this car and that direction isn't toward me. I have had my heart set on this car for a year now so I am more than disappointed to say the least and it is all due to marketing. I am bitter to put it mildly and that is my right regardless of what anyone says. for all those who need an "entry level M", congratulations.

There are only a couple of very recent Ms that have the carbon roof. It's not a staple. Just like the recent dual exhaust, hood bump, m button etc. These are always bitched about until they are seen on the mules. Remember we lost ITBs and we are bitching about an esthetic item on a performance car? How many on here know what an ///M car is all about? It's not the dual exhaust, fat hips, hood bump, paddle shifters, double bubble, multiple personality button, front fangs, rear vents etc. It's about the balance, feedback, performance and connection that makes them all ///M cars. or snag an M235i Racing when they bring it stateside... or throw in towel and buy a GT4. I don't think you're the minority (at least here) that would buy a more expensive car if BMW made one in a 2 series package (I've owned a handful of M cars new and most recently chose to pay way over MSRP for a used, 4 year old 1M because there's nothing in BMW's current stable that really interests me). All of the above aside, suggesting that an M235i with a tune is substitute for an M2 leads me to believe that your expectations are lower than they should be. This is going to be a fantastic BMW CF roof or not. |

Edit: Though I do miss ITBs. Part of me reluctantly accepts that there are now more people buying M cars with the desire to 'win' the next cars and coffee, not the next DE. |

I had a 135is before my 1M and they feel totally different to drive even though the 135is only had 15-20hp less than the 1M. |

Power isn't the be all and end all.
I want a car that has 50% different components to the normal 2 series. That's what the M3/4 is. Looking at all the sexy cast racing inspired pieces is arousing. The mechanics and engineering are the exciting differences for at least some of us. Underneath the car is just as hot as outside of it. I want a small, nimble, pist off car. Agility is all I can use around our very slow, beat up Canadian city streets. My city makes millions on photo radar enforcement. So anything North of 300hp/300tq is fuck tons and asking to be caught. Most of my driving is spent 60-90km/h I rarely go on highway where it's 110 km/h which super pedestrian compared to American highways and interstate speeds. I think the M2 would be faster than an M4 around an AutoX circuit because of it's small size and theoretical less weight. |

Definitely looking good. Could use the power dome on the hood and up swept trunk lid ala the m4 coupe.
Might have to go put down a deposit soon.

If anyone is still using the tired and false statement that the 1er M Coupe is just a faster 135i? they have never driven one. You know instantly the difference.
The same stands for the M2 regarding of what you think it is not just a faster M235i.

Exactly ! A friend of mine owns a 135i, I had the occasion to drive it regularly, but when stepping into my 1M wel, the 1M is miles ahead in steering, in how agile it feels, throttle respons, braking, you name it, another world, another level.....my friend loves the 1M that really tells the story. By no means the 135i is a bad car, it is a wonderful driving machine, but soft, friendly, quiet...........just different. I even think the 1M has sharper initial steering input compared to my Cayman GTS, you wouldn't believe it, but I really think the 1M has more direct steering feel to it.
