So.....what next!
They want the car physically there???

-edit- Obviously that's what you said, but I'm astonished. Maybe it's like that so they can do the labor of removing the intake manifold for DME swap themselves.

I've had some good success so far with the alternative method.

Apologies but how does one check to see if their car is tunable?

Plug the ECU into Ecutek or something similar, that will tell you.

The page says, "it is one of the most highly modified M2C’s getting around!" So I'm guessing it has down pipes and charge pipes already?

Good news for sure.

Sounds like the industry is making some quick progress. I've resolved to a 2-3 year wait but now I'm excited for an earlier release.

I've seen some MP tunes for the diesel. No comment.

But it's not like they're making the solution themselves, so it wouldn't matter. If they truly get a way to get around the Bosch lock, then you'd be able to get a tune from anyone. The Russian hackers that came up with the first MEVD17 solutions are active for this version too, but it's a totally different beast this time.

Having said that, I do have a ready to go solution available for 2021 M2C/M2CS - a complete DME made for the car. It will be in the classifieds in the coming week.

I hope this pans out, and then leads to a solution for needing a bench unlock. I'm beyond over not being able to tube my car without ripping the DME out of the car.

New update for 06/2021

New security gateway in the ECU of the cars allows dealer the option only to read errors and not to delete it.

If that's true it's amazing they hadn't done it years ago.

Deleting all faults and trouble codes has enabled tuners / modders to hide all sorts of things.

They must still be able to "clear" them when a fault is fixed - to clear CELs etc, but do you mean a historical event list will remain which will be non-erasable?

Is this a pending update to all models?

Another reason why mine will never go to BMW...

"Permanent codes" are more than likely what they are talking about, which have been around since at least 2014, or at least that is when I first noticed them.

You can clear the current code triggering the CEL but a permanent code remains forever in the code history until the ECM realizes the issue no longer exists.

This isn't about disabling codes in the tune. It's about clearing them after they have been debounced.

The newest versions of the dealer software will not allow a code clear for emissions items. It wants to make the dealer tech fix the problem and let the ecu resolve the code through the normal code healing processes. Of course the clear routines are still there and they work in INPA or Tool32 just like always.

Like the poster above said, this is not new.
It also has nothing to do with ecu tuning or updates to the car.

New to the community, picking up my M2C in a week. I reached out to Chris at Carbahn about their stage 1 tune (who was very informative and took the time to answer all my questions about the tune and warranty), and asked about lead time. Answered that they are currently in BETA testing, and planning to roll something out for 2021 MY DME’s by the end of August.

Hope this helps with some of the disparity of the new DME’s being “untunable”.

Interesting!
Any details on what kind of solution this is? Piggyback, spare ecu, etc.

I've been hearing similar stories since November 2020 on the G05s.

They were already in "BETA Testing" in 2020 and something was supposed to come out "soon". Here we are 9 months later. Take anything you hear from Carbahn with a grain of salt.

I actually used to be a big proponent of Carbahn and you can find a few threads where I had some positive feedback after talking to Chris and listening to their sales pitch. But I've learned that many times they are just stringing people along without providing any clear answers. I highly recommend BM3 over Carbahn.

And me and several others have had the exact opposite experience. Three months on and zero issues with my CarBahn stage 1 tune. Highly recommend.

It is a flash tune. Which still will require removing the DME and sending to be bench unlocked.

AmooManiak : sorry you’ve had a bad experience with them. I would probably be somewhat upset about the poor communication of timing as well. But from what I hear from a lot of people who own S55 vehicles, their tune is very good and reliable. Hopefully they keep their word on the timing.
