I've seen a video where someone used the Bimmer Code app to code it to always be off and for the car to remember this preference. It looks easy enough to do but can somone tell me if there is anything more to it? Anything I should be aware of? The last thing I want to do is brick my new car or mess up the system programming.

Also - can anyone recommend which adaptor to use? It seems there are quite a lot of different ones to choose from.
Yep, EU/UK cars have to default to stop/start ON. US cars get to choose! I've had several S/S vehicles and they all do it. In the same way it has to start in "efficient" mode. In EU a vehicle must always start in its most efficient modes without any user intervention...

Easy to set on bimmercode to either default OFF or remember last setting. If you keep Bimmercode in normal mode (not expertmode) then it's all laid out clearly and you won't do any harm.

Just be aware when coding modules they are reset afterwards so you lose settings in that module, i.e all your radio presets, the clock, shortcut buttons, M buttons presets etc. So just be prepared for that depending on which module the setting you changed is in.

Go on bimmercode website and get an adaptor they recomrnend id say is best way to be sure.

I bought this one 5 years ago but it seems to have doubled in price since then.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00...b_b_asin_title

If you Google "bmw f20 coding cheat sheet" you'll find lots of other 2 series F platform settings you can change (some applicable some not)

M2C is F87 but its built around basic 2 series F20 electronics platform

Simply select a different engine type in ASD options, this will stop ASD from working and you can simply reselect S55 when you want it back on again.
Does anyone have a easy tutorial on how to restore ASD, I recently bought a M2C that had ASD coded off, so I don't have the back up, I want to turn it on and hear how it sounds.

Thanks

I had to use esys to recode the module after Bimmercode messed it up using the disable ASD option.

I don't know any other way but im sure others do.

You may still want to hear it for yourself, but FWIW I toggled it on and off repeatedly while driving and could BARELY tell the difference. Its so subtle I truly dont understand why BMW bothered adding complexity to the car (extra harness, etc) just for the "feature". It does almost nothing...

I turned on full screen Carplay and its so much better with the new functionality that is now there. But, am imagining that there is some color shifting going on with the screen depending on the album art displayed while playing music? All other apps are normal.

So I want something to read all the “ECU’s” for the purposes of determining the history of the car, trouble shooting, etc…. Is bimmercode the best way to go?

Thx!

I just picked up a 2021 CPO and they said that it would be flashed with the latest software as part of their certification process. Just confirming that the latest version of Bimmercode will still work. I'm most interested in the full screen CarPlay, folding mirrors and configuring some of the lighting settings. Thank you for any help.

Hi all,

could use some help with adjusting my angel eyes brightness... here is the situation:

I coded my car's angel eyes brightness late 2020 (I have a 2019 M2C), and all was perfect. A month ago, my car got hit in a hit-n-run at the airport, and went into the shop for repairs, where they replaced the front bumper and the driver's side headlight unit.

I got my car back today, and the brightness on the new headlight unit's angel eyes was not the same as the passenger side (which was the original)... it was whiter and less bright, whereas the passenger side original one still had the new brightness settings I had originally coded it.

I connected the bimmer app via the BT module I've always used, and tried to recode it, and nothing. I tried reducing the coding, and still nothing. I increased the brightness, and nothing.

I checked both sides in regular mode, and both sides show 100% brightness. I don't recall going into expert mode, but again, nothing seems to work.

I could use some help here.

What conditions must be met to turn off iDrive when driver door is opened? Is it really as simple as opening the door with the engine off? Does seat belt matter? Comfort access seat position implications?

I have coded numerous times and it still doesn’t want to remain active. It shows active when I open and connect BimmerCode, but it has only actually worked a couple of times.

Similarly, the comfort access seat positioning seems to be hit or miss as well. Sometimes it fails to move to driving position, but I can press the “1” preset button on the side of the seat and it advances to my set position.

No big deal either way…just curious mostly.

for the idrive, I didn’t code that (I personally try limiting coding changes especially if there’s alternate solutions) … in this case being to just press the engine on/off button another time after turning off engine, and that will turn off idrive. You prolly already know of that trick, but just in case you didn’t, figured I’d mention it cause it is an easy alternate solution.

For comfort access:

I have MT (which requires depressing clutch to crank engine) … so not sure if there’s a difference vs DCT

But I have the same hit or miss issue, but think I have it narrowed down to where the seat doesn’t move from comfort access to setting 1 position when you get into the car, unless the driver’s door is shut prior to hitting the on/off button to either turn car on or crank engine.

Note I don’t drive my car nearly often enough, so I havent’ been able to fully remember nor pinpoint if there’s specific parameters, but the door being closed seems to maybe be one of them?

But there’s definitely hit or miss scenarios where sometimes the seat will move back to the comfort access position when I first open the driver’s door and get in (from the outside), and other times it’s already in the comfort access position when I open the door from the outside.

I’m wondering if that’s maybe related to something like if i opened the door prior to shutting down the car the previous time?

I tried restoring both units back to the original backup, and then recoded the angel eyes, and nothing

it's like they are stuck in this mode and the coding from Bimmercode does nothing, eventhough I hear the ECU restarting, the fault codes being cleared, etc, but still nothing.

The DRLs on these cars are simple LED boards sitting on a heatsink in front of a refraction lens that then project out the angel eye tubing.

You mentioned it went into "the shop," was it a BMW dealer or a random mechanic? They could have gotten parts from perhaps just a third-party or another model that have different LEDs/brightnesses than the factory part.

You might want to check the actual modules. They're just held in with screws in the end bays near the front by the bumper, 2 per side, 3 screws per module.

they were changed at the BMW service center (replaced the entire headlight unit for a new one).

I'll check the modules to make sure they are not loose or something.

Again, I'm not sure what "BMW Service Center" means, is this an actual BMW dealership or a mechanic shop?

AFAIK the headlight unit is a separate part than the DRLs. I would just go back to whoever you took it to and tell them it's not right.

What happens if you disconnect the new headlamp (entirely) and attempt to adjust the old headlight to the factory level, can it be dimmed that way?

It seems unlikely but if the setting is 'bottoming out' because the new light can't be dimmed (much) further, it may prevent either light from being adjusted.

Just a theory.
