Why not 400hp? Well they don't just pull HP numbers out their asses. It has to match the car's many characteristics, weight balance, MPG targets, suspension components, brakes, class, chassis ... It's an M car. Not a Camaro. EDIT: And BTW, when BMW rates it at 380hp, that usually means 380hp at the wheels, which in reality means closer to 400hp when you take out drive train loss. But alas, we're still talking about unconfirmed rumors, from "inside sources" at this point. Nothing set in stone. Last edited by Falafel Combo; 04-30-2014 at 08:56 PM.. |

Pyrat2, huh? If it's true to the original reason for the 1M being given this name... this is going to be one mean little thing! Rob all you want from the M3/4 parts bin!!

No Cobb takes much much longer to crack BMW ecu and they lost their BMW guru Rob Irish last year. For instance the N54 ecu, they were much later to game than Dinan. Once again. Fact Dinan does all their own in house hacking. They hire Cal Tech engineers. Steve has a softeware team of 6 individuals that literally spend their entire work day hacking ecu's. Steve say on average it takes them half a year to hack an ecu. Last edited by DieGrόneHφlle; 04-30-2014 at 08:00 PM.. |

Have you even owned an S65? I've had all three... N54, N55 and the S65. Don't want to start something here but you must be out of your mind to call the S65, "crappy".

BMW ecu's are becoming more and more difficult to crack. Take in point the S63 in the M5. Dinan has yet to crack that ecu, yes thanks to no help from BMW. You know what they are doing, they are going to release a piggyback for the M5. Evidence they do not get help from BMW to crack ecu's. The next gen M3/M4 will be even more encrypted/secure than the M5.

You don't know bmw
Using the n55 means they will still charge an arm and a leg But they'll have a higher profit margin

That said the M2 will be amazing no matter what engine BMW decides to put in, i am down for this car. It's size is perfect...better than the 1 series. And yes i love the Cayman S as well as the Boxster spider....but as a owner and DD of a Mazda Miata getting back into a car that is so tiny will not happen for me. At 6ft4 i have a little room in the 1991 Miata, but there is NO room in either the Cayman or Boxter...less than the Miata..Yes they fit like a glove but that is what makes the M2 special for me...it's athletic and still has the room to stretch and not feel cramped like the Porsche...The Porsche is beautiful but at this stage for me i want some..room and have the option to put something in the back seat...M2 for me !!!!!!!!!!! |

Too hbd this car will suffer from boxster-itis
Where the car is always limited in what it can do It's always detuned here, softened here, made less sharp there Just to make sure not to piss off the m3/m4 owners who paid more So is BMW going to turn into another audi? Where the same engine is used in various models, but with different tunes? I love the users bummed it's using an n55 not an s55 Funny I hope at least this time they spend a little more on the engine cover Than the cheap shit looking "powered by M" sticker that was stuck on the 1m engine

Sorry. It was the first thing that came to mind and I didn't feel like reading several pages of posts to find the answer...

MEH. the 1M is a waaaay more desirable car than the M3 of that time.......proof that tradition does not equate to the final product. tradition only matters if you're stuck in the past... |

This car has big shoes to fill. 1M is a tough act to follow. Probably the last of the analog BMWs as the M2 is sure to have active sound, DCT, auto start stop and adaptive suspension
