I'm not sure if you've experienced the S65 personally, but it's a little better than crappy. I guess the gas mileage is crappy if that's what you mean. |

S65 pwns the N54T even though I think highly of the N54
Just wait for the injector problems and vanos bolt issues to arise in the turbo motors unless the fuel has less ethanol in it plus carbon buildup from DI I had to have my hpfp and all 6 injectors replaced in my 335is I loved the 335is and its exhaust note, but the S65 is even better The only new less than 5 series BMW I would consider is the F87 The S63(tu) has heat problems |

Very exciting!
I'll say it, why not make this 400+ BHP and put the cost closer to the M3? It's quite annoying that more power has to equal massive car in the BMW lineup. It's not as if M ownership is like regular BMW ownership. And the "cannibalise sales stuff" is kind of nonsense, because you either buy an M2 or an M3, either way it's money in the kitty, and if they're closer in price the profits will be similar, it's just more choice. I'd be far more concerned about money going to Merc and Audi who are on par/ahead with power in their AMG/RS and ahead of the game with their 2nd in line S and AMG Sport models. I wonder if it will be limited edition? |

Awesome news. Should be ready for this after my M235 lease is up unless I get greedy (95% probable) and do a pull ahead or lease trade out of it

Dinan probably does get some preferential treatment over other tuners but the certainly aren't being given access like Alpina is. Why do you think it has taken them so long to offer a tune for the N55 or S63 motors? I get people asking about tunes for those motors all day long. |

BMW will have to do better than that engine wise or this will be slower than the new Golf R400.

I've been really looking forward to this car and really hope they don't use the N55. That motor is complete deal breaker for me and everyone else who tracks in hot climates like CA. N54/55 are great DD motors but horrible track motors.

If ///M did not offer convertible cars the weight argument would hold more water, since an xDrive M coupe wouldn't weigh more than a RWD vert. The added weight is manageable. |

It is always such good news that BMW decides to make another small M car, that's the heart of BMW brand in my opinion.
I don't think it is fair to make comments over the engine before learning what actually M división will come up as upgrades to N55. That is a strong but mostly economy/refinement/emissions in-mind product so might not have the tuning capacity of N54 versions really but indeed too early to comment. I doubt they will give too much of a F8X like treatment to the M2 because 1.5-2 years difference is not that much to protect their own M3/M4 sales and if it won't be limited like the 1M, it can really really hurt the F8X sales, look how many people in this thread already speaking of waiting for this instead of pulling the trigger for M3/M4. N55+in house competition from F8X and related concerns to favor F8X as a high probability+unlimited production run with any kind of options available for any market; total balance might well mean for actual 1M owners that, unless they have to have the newest toy and they can't keep both, it might be a good idea to stick longer with the already wonderful 1M, we always have troubles of letting it go anyway. Let's also see if the M2 will borrow chassis/suspensión components from bigger brother a la 1M or not, which gave the 1M such extraordinary stance and capabilities and that was the result of a necessity derived from time and budget constraints; constraints that ended well for the 1M. That is more significant than the engine concerns in the M2 imo and I see nothing in these initial announcement or previous rumors confirming that BMW will let the smaller M use bigger M's components yet another time Anyway great news for anyone who will be in the market after late 2015, early 2016.

So seeing as this will not be a limited production car, how many years would you guess it'll be in production? At least two? My M235i lease will be up in May 2017... want to make sure the M2 is still alive and kicking at that point.
