Metal charge pipe

So much for the upgraded plastic charge pipe. I blew mine to pieces.
I spent about four hours off and on getting the metal charge pipe on.
Problems with the plastic connectors etc
A few times I needed another person LOL
Second person would make it a bit quicker

It’s definitely a pain in the ass that’s for sure… especially if you have LRG hands

Mine popped off the intercooler once but clearly I didn’t connect it properly

Once it’s in you’re fortunately never going to really have to touch it again

I went with the same brand intercooler as well so that can sometimes help

The OEM chargepipe should be replaced preemptively. It’s not a matter of if it will explode, it’s a matter of when. Mine blew up 4 days after getting the car on stock tune. Nothing worse than having your brand new to you dream car sitting in the driveway waiting for a part to ship. Also you may as well get an upgraded intercooler at the same time to save on labor time/cost

Agree with with preemptive replacement. My car was 5 years old with around 30k miles when I replaced mine. Stock, no tune.

Went with Evolution Racewerks, both charge pipe and boost pipe. Had my shop do it, guy said it fit so well he was going to order a few for inventory since he has seen these stock pipes blow a number of times.

IMO they make the best CP period

I bought a BMS and it’s a knockoff of their design for $199

Did the Evolution Raceworks charge pipe on my last car. Very impressed with the fit and finish.

Previous owner already replaced the pipe on my current car with an ARM unit to match the intercooler. Nowhere near as nice as the ER, but it doesn't bother me enough to swap it. Once it's in, not much can really go wrong with a metal pipe.

When dealing with the original plastic pipe, I don't know why more people just don't cut it up to get it out. You're just going to throw it in the trash anyway. Makes the job SO much easier if you just cut it in half. No need to pull the IC for access. It's just polyethylene. Like a thick milk jug. A sharp utility knife / box cutter will go right through it. Just be careful though, as the pipe runs near the steering rack power cables and a few hoses. The sharper the knife, the less risk of slippage and collateral damage.

I took a hole saw, pushed a big hole right through mine and I had Less sawing
If you can put a piece of metal above your steering rack to prevent damage, that will be good

Mine blew at 21K miles. Car was stock, and it was replaced under warranty. I just crossed 39K miles and will be doing a proactive IC and CP upgrade within the next 12 months.
