M2 N55 6MT Vacuum Line
I was swapping out stock chargepipe to the VRSF aluminum chargepipe on my M2 (N55 6MT) and every youtube DIY I watched told me the manual models don't have a vacuum line going into the chargepipe (VRSF even gave a rubber plug to fill the vacuum line hole on their chargepipe).
But on my car there was vacuum line going into the stock chargepipe (circled in red, pic attached below) and so I thought I have to plug that vacuum line into the new VRSF chargepipe as well (else where would that vacuum go?). My question is: is it normal that my manual m2 has this vacuum line connecting to my stock chargepipe? And is it ok to plug that same vacuum line into the new VRSF chargepipe? |

Yes this is normal and present on all N55 M2s. For some reason even the manuals got this vent on the F87 even though the F22 M235i doesn’t have it - you’ve got nothing to worry about

Looks like you’re in CA. I’d love to hear about your experience or expectations for getting your car thru smog inspection with the aftermarket charge pipe. Any thoughts or experiences are welcome over in this thread on the topic:
https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1997150 It looks like a plurality of folks are getting through the inspection just fine. But not everyone… |

This vacuum line is for the tank ventillation, so it's wise to keep it.

Little bit off topic but any insights is appreciated.
Does this mean I can measure negative pressure (vacuum) of the intake manifold if I attach a pressure sensor by bifurcating a tubing from here? What I have learned was I can get the boost pressure but not the vacuum pressure with BMW turbo models.

Thanks for your reply. Which platform did you use for data logging? If I remember correctly it was not included in the list of parameters of BimmerLink.

IMO don't waste your money on those inferior OBD2 adapters, buy a bmw specific one that will be able to tap in to the car's flex ray system and be able to be used with bmw tuning, coding, and diagnostic tools - something the obdlink mx or other inferior adapters won't be able to do.
In terms of data logging, I think bimmer link can show vaccum, it is present in the manifold pressure guage, or the boost guage which goes negative when under vaccum. I can't remember exactly though.

By regularly monitoring the vacuum value, hopefully I can find a sign of engine trouble earlier. I was thinking of installing an OBD based multi functional gauge which I used in my Evo9 but their compatibility chart says only positive pressure is shown with BMW and MINI models. I wish I could used this with F87 as it’s so simple to install and operate.

Hi guys, I just came across this issue. Do anybody know what is the purpose of this vacuum line? I get that it is a part of a fuel tank ventilation system, but why it goes into charge pipe and intake together?
Previous owner of my car installed aftermarket charge pipe (without vacuum pipe connection) and simply applied some shrining tape on that loose end Car also has BMS intake, and I just do not understand how connecting this vacuum line to the charge pipe will not result in massive boost leak. Its just open pipe connecting pressurized part (charge pipe) and not pressurizes part (intake behind filter). Are there any valves on stock charge pipe or intake or what am I missing? Until I do not understand this I will left it blanked and not connected. There are some ports on my charge pipe that are plugged and can be used for this with some additional fitting, but I don't see a point. Any ideas? Thanks My car is F20 automatic EWG, but that's not important, I think its the same for all F2X automatic and F87 |

As you said, I can’t imagine how it’s not allowing unmetered air or creating a boost leak. |

There is a narrow section inside where the pipe joins from the side, so it acts like a jet pump using the Venturi effect. This makes the suction from the fuel vent filter.

Thanks! I contacted previous owner and he confirmed that he just got wrong charge pipe so he just blanked that end of that vacuum hose with tape. I guess tank ventilation is compromised by it, since there is no venturi effect in place, as Tano is saying.
My charge pipe and boost pipe are from FTP motorsport, I hoped they will sell some screwable adapter that will goes into ports on that manual version but no, I can't see anything on they website. I will leave it blanked like before for now, and will tackle this later. Rather than tank ventilation I'm more worried that it alters air flows from charge pipe to inlet, which ECU is accounting for and now it's not happening. |
