718 vs M2 (again)
I currently own G20 330i as a daily driver.
Also I have base 718 Cayman (2.0) as a fun car. Love both of them.
I’m planning on replacing G20 later this year with new 5 series to get more comfort on not so perfect roads.
As to the topic subject - I love 718, it’s a fun car, always a pleasure to drive on a nice twisty roads. I can’t keep smiling driving it in more «enthusiastic mode» however once I started thinking on replacing 330i I came to realise that there is one thing I don’t like 718 and for that reason it sits in the garage more time then it deservers. Cabin noise. It’s fun when you drive it for 100KM. It’s not when I go 350km+ somewhere. I enjoy every minute, but at the end I feel completely worn-out and my head gives me a headache. My question to M2 owners who may had experience with 718 - how is cabin noise compares between these two? Should I consider switching to M2 because of this issue? PS: Yes I would be looking to get new M2 G87, Posting it here as G87 is still pretty new and I guess not so many people driven it. |

Hello,
i dont own a 718. But as a F87 LCI Driver (non OPF and stock exhaust): -Stock (ASD Fake sounds on) Sound is Ok. Well designed, but sometimes a bit noisy. -Stock with decoding ASD (Real engine sound) Comfort mode is in 95% silent. Cruising even on Autobahn/Highway like a normal 2series coupe. When you revs up/WOT the engine and exhaust are good to hear and strong like it should be. Traction Mode produces loud burbles if you want. I dont know why BMW means that the M2 needs fake sounds. |

Suspension wise, you can cruise in this more more so than the F87C as you can just throw the shocks into comfort mode. Sound wise, It sounds differently than the F87C but more importantly, the gearing is much longer (at least 5th and 6th are) so if you do go for those long drives, it will be quieter if you keep the exhaust flaps closed. If you're seriously considering switching from a 718 to a G87, I suggest taking one for a decent drive to answer those questions. Dealers should have HEA cars specifically for test drives.
